Red Bull are reportedly set to announce who will partner Yuki Tsunoda in the VCARB for the 2025 season following the Singapore Grand Prix, with all signs pointing to New Zealand youngster Liam Lawson replacing Ricciardo.

As the rumour mill spins itself into overdrive, questions have come flying in from all angles but it was one from Croft that didn’t sit well with lovers of the sport.

Max Verstappen, Lance Stroll and Tsunoda sat in front of the media answering questions ahead of the race weekend when the conversation was turned to Ricciardo.

“A question to all three drivers. Lance, you’ve got a close relationship with Daniel Ricciardo. Max and Yuki, you have too and were former teammates,” Croft began.

It was his closing line however that infuriated fans.

“Does Daniel Ricciardo deserve to stay in Formula 1 for next year?” Croft asked.

While Verstappen delivered a heartfelt response, which sounded a little like a farewell speech, it was the question itself which came under fire.

One wrote on X: “‘Does Daniel Ricciardo deserve to stay in F1 next season’ is such a piece of sh*t question.”

A second added: “What’s the crack with that question from Crofty. Sh*tty question.”

A third wrote: “The phrasing on all these questions is wild. he isn’t the only one not locked in for next year why don’t other drivers get the same line of questions.”

Ricciardo addressed the speculation surrounding his future in the sport, admitting he’s uncertain on what his fate will be.

“My first expectation is (it will be) about next year,” Ricciardo said, per The Race. “That’s where I’m at at the moment.

“I can’t give too many details, but in terms of contract, our dates pretty much come into this window now.

“Basically, I do expect a yes or a no for 2025.

“I’m aware of some talk and speculation about the rest of the season. That, at the moment, I’m unaware of.

“The decision I expect is for next year, but obviously crazy things have happened in this sport, so I’m also not going to stand here too confident.

“I believe I will be (on the grid), but let’s see.”

Ricciardo was equivocal when asked directly if the Singapore Grand Prix could be his last in Formula 1.

“I don’t think so, but I also don’t want to stand here and be the lawyer,” he said, per ESPN. “I would say no, but also we know how this sport works. People have not seen through a season before. It’s nothing new in some ways.

“I don’t want to also be, ‘Oh, 100 per cent, I’ll bet all my house on it’. I’ve been around too long.”

The Singapore Grand Prix will get underway on Sunday, September 22 from 10pm (AEST).
