Aussie Moto2 rider Remy Gardner has his sights set on joining countryman Jack Miller on the MotoGP grid in 2021.

Gardner, 21, has shown enough form this year with the SAG Team, raising expectations of a breakout year in 2020 being a springboard to the elite class.

He has also hit out at the haters who say he is riding on the coat-tails of his famous father Wayne.

“The best way to shut them up is just go out and get results,’’ he told the Herald Sun.

“You know, just got to use it as motivation and stick it in their faces.’’

Gardner and his No 87 bike have proven to be a competitive unit this year, securing a second and two fourth placings in nine finishes. But for some luckless races and some incorrect settings, he could have secured more championship points.

“Good luck’s gonna come, it’s just about being consistent and being there,’’ he said.

“I want to try and fight in Moto2 first and enjoy being up the front a bit more and have

a good year.’’

Gardner heads to the Twin Ring Motegi circuit this weekend for the Japan round, before heading to Phillip Island for the Australian GP on Sunday week (OCT 27).

His last result was 12th in Thailand, his best a runner-up placing in Argentina in March.

The Sydney-born racer is now based in Barcelona, where he has lived for about eight years.

“Yeah, it’s really good. I love it there and always look forward to going back.’’

Gardner is now fluent in Spanish and has a local girlfriend.

His father Wayne, who won the world 500cc championship in 1987, said Remy had the ability and was building his experience and racecraft.

“He is exceptionally talented. That provides you with the speed to go faster than what his experience level is,’’ Wayne said.

“And it’s been a challenge his whole career. But now his experience is catching up.

“He’s had a few little mistakes. But he’s also been unlucky, too.’’
