In the dying moments of the opening practice session for Moto2 riders, Gardner made his way around the notorious Hayshed corner when his bike kicked out from underneath him.

It resulted in him being thrown from the bike at high-speed and sent flying across the road before he slid onto the grass and tumbled through the gravel.

His bike followed suit and as soon as it hit the gravel bits of the bike began to be thrown all over the place.

Thankfully the Aussie was able to get back to his feet before he was escorted away by marshalls. His bike was another story with the rear wheel busted.

Despite the nightmare crash Gardner returned to the track for the second practice session in dry conditions, but could only manage to clock a time of 1:34.179. Good enough for 19th overall.
