Majok Deng set to miss a month of NBL24 while Will Magnay to be ‘monitored’

The Tasmania JackJumpers have given an update on the health of two star players ahead of a New Year’s Day clash.

Huge upsets in Christmas Day NBL clashes

The Tasmania JackJumpers are set to be without forward Majok Deng for up to a month, but star big man Will Magnay’s availability for Monday’s clash against New Zealand is still up in the air.

Both players were left worse for wear in the Jackies Christmas Day loss against South East Melbourne Phoenix – their second loss at MyState Bank Arena this season.

Now six days removed from the 85-77 loss, the club has confirmed they will be without Deng for an extended period of time.

“Forward Majok Deng is expected to miss at least 4 weeks after suffering an ankle sprain in last Monday’s game against South East Melbourne Phoenix,” the statement read.

The news for Magnay is however somewhat more promising with the in-form big man suffering no structural damage to his leg.

“Will Magnay left the court late in the same game with a leg contusion however imaging has shown no structural damage, and he will continue to be monitored over the coming days.”

While it hasn’t been confirmed if Magnay will miss any time, the news is somewhat positive given his horror run with injury over the last two years.

After a late start to NBL23 with a knee injury, Magnay then missed the opening seven rounds of NBL24 with a foot injury he suffered while playing in Spain during the off-season.

He returned in November and despite playing limited minutes in his nine games this season, his impact on court has well and truly been felt.

Highlighted by his 12 points and 12 rebounds performance against the Breakers on December 9, the former one-time New Orleans Pelicans player has greatly helped improved his sides’ work on the defensive end of the floor.

Tasmania currently sit third on the NBL ladder with a 10-8 record and will face the Breakers from 4pm on New Year’s Day.
