Forget the beanies and heavy jackets. It could hotter than ever for the V8s at Symmons Plains.

TASMANIA’S round of the Supercars championship could now be summertime fun for local motorsport fans with officials prepared to go into early next year to run its full 14-round 2020 series.

Supercars boss Sean Seamer said he was working on a new-look calendar for this year’s championship and how to fit in the Tasmanian event, along with the other postponed events – Melbourne’s Grand Prix round, New Zealand and Perth.

The state’s biggest sporting event was scheduled for next weekend, and the supercar teams were booked on ships due to start arriving in Burnie and Devonport on Sunday and Monday.

CORONAVIRUS CASTS DOUBT OVER TASSIE SUPERCARS ROUND

Seamer said the Tasmania Super400 would be held later in the year and while Supercars officials were considering holding some TV-only rounds because of the Federal Government’s restriction on large gatherings, it is almost certain the Tasmanian round would not be conducted until that ban was lifted and fans could flock to Symmons Plains Raceway.

“We will continue to discuss it with the teams, but right now if we have to go deep into summer or even early into next year, then we are prepared to do that at this point in time,” Seamer said.

“Things are changing very frequently but we have got a plan. The teams are all aligned.

“Now it’s just a matter of working through different scenarios and seeing how soon we can get back out there.

“We are committed to getting back and even if that means having to do some TV-only rounds at the start.”

The postponed events will be scheduled to fit around the events yet to come.

The sport’s marquee event, the Bathurst 1000 on October 11, will not budge.

The Gold Coast 600 (November 1) and Newcastle 500 (December 6), which need weeks to transform streets into a race track, are also like to stay put.
