TASMANIA’S bold A-League bid has crashed at the first hurdle.

It is understood the application, backed by Melbourne millionaires Robert Belteky and Harry Stamoulis, has failed to make Football Federation Australia’s shortlist.

There were 15 applications for the two expansion licenses and it is believed that will be whittled down to 10 at the official announced from FFT later this afternoon, with Tasmania one of five to miss out in a huge blow for the proponents and all football fans in the state.

According to reports, it has been a NSW and Victorian dominated shortlist with Macarthur, south-western Sydney, Southern Expansion, Wollongong, Team 11, Western Melbourne, South Melbourne, Western Pride, Canberra and Brisbane City the successful bids so far.
