TASMANIA’S aspiring Formula One driver Alex Peroni has recovered from an horrific crash that fractured his spine at the Monza race in Italy last year and confirmed his place for round one of the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship in Bahrain on March 21.
Peroni, 20, suffered a fractured vertebrae and concussion in the spectacular airborne crash in September and spent three months in a back brace, leaving his racing career with an uncertain future.
Fortunately, the Tasmanian driver received the go ahead to begin training in December and is raring to get back behind the wheel.
Peroni made the announcement in Melbourne on the same day the Australian Grand Prix Corporation marked 70 days to go until the Melbourne GP.
“The last four months have been really tough, but I can’t wait to get back on the Formula 3 grid,” Peroni said.
“I have plenty of unfinished business.
“The Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is the pinnacle of world motorsport and I have my eye
set firmly on one day competing at the Albert Park circuit.”
Craig Fletcher, Australian Grand Prix Corporation General Manager, said: “We are thrilled
Alex has made such a tremendous recovery and we’ll be watching his progress closely throughout the upcoming F3 season.
“It’s great to see young Australian talent shine and F3 racing is a critical stepping-stone on
the pathway to Formula 1.”
The F3 season includes two races each at Bahrain, Zandvoort (The Netherlands), Barcelona, Red Bull Ring (Austria), Silverstone, Hungaroring (Hungary), Spa, Monza and Sochi (Russia).
