TARGA Tasmania may be garaged for this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but organisers have announced the biggest course in the history of the event for 2021.

The world’s premier tarmac rally will take the field on a 2000km odyssey around the state for 473km of competitive racing over 38 stages, giving drivers and crews a huge welcome “home” to Tasmania’s picturesque and challenging roads.

TARGA TASMANIA CANCELLED, SUPERCARS ROUND POSTPONED

Targa officials believe the Targa High Country event in Victoria in November and Targa Great Barrier Reef in Far North Queensland in September will still go ahead.

They announced Targa Tasmania, the flagship event – originally scheduled for April 27-May 2 – would be a bumper event next year from April 19-24.

Targa boss Mark Perry said: “The Targa team have already been hard at work preparing for next year’s event, which will finally see the longest competition course in the events history roll out. We are excited to announce that the course will remain the same [as 2020], with the only exception being Isandula stage, which will now run at its original length of 7.78km due to road works being completed in time for next year.

“In light of the recent and unfortunate turn of events, next year’s 29th running promises to be a big one.”
