UNBEATEN and barely troubled throughout the regular season, Claremont will start raging favourites in Friday night’s SFLW grand final against Huonville.

And it’s not a situation lost on captain Katie Stanford, who is well aware her side has “everything to lose” after an utterly dominant 2020 campaign.

However the Pies will embrace the pressure of trying to complete the perfect season under lights at North Hobart Oval.

Claremont finished the home and away fixture with a staggering percentage of 1688.89, conceding just 36 points in nine games while piling on 608 of their own.

They also kept the Lions scoreless in an 85-point drubbing last month in the last meeting between the two teams.

“We are very excited, it is our first appearance in the grand final as a club,” Stanford said.

“We’ve had a great year being undefeated, so obviously we have everything to lose in the grand final but we have earned that position.

“Playing on Friday night is an exciting opportunity as well, we have had quite a few Friday night games so the experience of those ones as well will help.”

Opposition skipper Anna Stanway fully understands the enormity of the task to slay the giant, but is hoping the Lions can cause the monumental upset and start a big weekend for the club in perfect fashion.

“We are really excited, we are not underestimating the magnitude of this situation we have been put in, we know its going to be really, really tough.

“But anything can happen in finals, we are hoping we can cause an upset, basically as [Stanford] said they have everything to lose, that paves the way for us to have absolutely everything to gain.

“We are going into the game with maximum determination.

“It is pretty obvious looking at the 2020 season for us we are going into it as underdogs.”
