Two of Tasmania’s best young boxers are set to have the home field advantage later this month when they headline the Big Bash 10th Anniversary Pro/Am Boxing card.

Locals Sabastian Wells and Brayden Ion will be the main attractions on Saturday October 21 at the Brighton Civic Centre when the pair face off against two interstate boxers in the main event and semi-main event.

Wells will face off against Newcastle’s Dan Murray with the southpaw set to give the Tasmanian a tough battle.

“Great to lock someone in that’s going to give me a really good challenge,” Wells said.

“I’ve fought four southpaws for three wins so I’m confident against a southpaw but it just comes down to getting in the zone to face a fighter like that.

“Every professional fight I just want to step up and this one is definitely that. I’m not looking past this one at all but I want to keep moving up until there is a title bout for me.”

Heavyweight boxer Ion will face Sam Waqa, also from NSW, and was confident heading into the big man battle.

“He is pretty tall but the bigger they are, the harder they fall I guess,” Ion said.

“I had my first pro boxing fight in May but I also do MMA and kickboxing. I’ll probably try and juggle them both but eventually will likely have to make a decision on one.”

Event promoter Adrian Lovell said it was great to bring a night of boxing back to the local community with two homegrown professionals in the main events.

“We have a massive undercard from the Tasmanian Boxing League and then the headline acts so we are really looking forward to bringing boxing back to the suburbs,” he said.

“We know both professional fighters have a good fan base so I urge them to come out and support them and see what boxing is all about.”
