SFL Community League live 2025 stream: Sorell v Dodges Ferry, Round 9

The Sharks have sent a clear warning to the rest of the SFL Community League after tearing the Eagles apart at Shark Park. Watch the REPLAYS from a big double header.

It was billed as a heavyweight rivalry bout, it’s just someone forgot to tell Sorell.

It seemed the Eagles forgot to get off the bus at Shark Park, as they were torn to shreds in a Dodges Ferry feeding frenzy.

The Sharks leapfrogged their rivals on the SFL Community League sneior mens ladder with an utterly dominant 22.14 (148) to 8.12 (60) win.

The Sharks were near unstoppable on the field, with Connor McGee leading the charge by scoring five goals, while Brad Joseph (4) and Will Broomhall (3) contributed a bagful each to the scoreline.

The Sharks’ performance was a testament to their collective effort, with every player contributing to the win, and sent a clear warning shot across the bow at all of their rivals.

Matt Young was arguably the standout player, demonstrating exceptional skill and control throughout the match, while the Booth brothers, Jamie and Jessie, were brutal off halfback.

For the Sorell Eagles, it was an afternoon to forget. Despite Nick Thornbury’s relentless efforts and a three-goal haul for Jeremiah Perkins, the team struggled to find their rhythm and will likely want to move past this game quickly.

In the women’s fixture, Heidi Johnson’s exceptional performance was the highlight of the Sorell Eagles’ commanding 8.10 (58) to 2.3 (15) victory against the Dodges Ferry Sharks in the SFL Community League women’s competition.

Johnson’s seeming involvement in nearly every play earned her the best on ground accolade, as she set the tone for the Eagles’ success.

Olivia Hudson and Ava Rawson each contributed two goals, with Rawson consistently posing a threat up front. Sascha Newman, Kaylee Stubbs, Zalia Ivory, and Eliza Hutt each added a goal to the Eagles’ tally, showcasing the team’s depth.

Despite a physical defence, the Sharks struggled against the Eagles’ relentless attack. Jemma Clark and Amy Edmand managed to score for the Sharks, with Clark’s goal coming late in the match.

Molly Monks and Tynesha Clark provided solid support for the Eagles, contributing to the team’s cohesive performance. The scrappy contest was marked by fierce physicality, but it was the Eagles’ teamwork and Johnson’s brilliance that secured their victory.

PREVIEW

There is no love lost between Sorell and Dodges Ferry and another page in this history books will be written when the two sides lock horns on Saturday.

The rivalry between the two premiership contenders dates back before many of the players on their lists were born.

The Eagles and Sharks clash will be available live and exclusive on KommunityTV from 2pm with the women’s clash kicking off the action at 12pm.

While the Sharks will be aiming to celebrate their past players’ day with a victory over their fiercest rivals, the Eagles will be seeking to avenge their loss from round four.

And while the Sharks have lost their last two games, coach Jess Tegg said they will look back at the round four contest to see what they did well to get back on the winning list.

“Both teams played a really good brand of footy (last time we met),” Tegg said.

“I think we just got a hold of them sort of half way through the third quarter, made the most of a couple opportunities forward and then that was the difference in the game.

“The last quarter was just a grind and we expect a really tight contest this week as well.

“Coming off back to back defeats, we are just focused on what we can do better and closing the gap between our best and our worst and we have seen that in both games.”

The round nine match up is played at Shark Park which is a smaller ground than Pembroke Oval where the two sides met in the earlier part of the season.

The Sharks booted five goals to three in the third quarter and seven goals to four after half time to claim a 19-point victory.

Tegg said his side has been good enough to adapt to the conditions of different grounds.

“It doesn’t change, we adapt quite well, our contested footy is pretty good for the smaller grounds but then when we are on the bigger grounds we are pretty happy to get out and run,” Tegg said.

“There is an advantage with that ground, it is a small funny shaped ground so we will be using that to our advantage on Saturday.

“We also have the South East Giants junior day as well, so it is going to be pretty jam packed.”
