Tasmanian Netball League fans are set for a treat with both an earlier start and longer season

among the new additions to the 2025 competition.

Set to kick off with a massive opening round on February 15 – featuring six of the seven clubs – the TNL will be live streamed weekly on KommunityTV for the third successive year.

Teams will descend on Launceston’s Silverdome for six back-to-back Opens and U19 clashes in Round 1, all broadcast live.

Then, from Round 2, KommunityTV is set to stream weekly double-headers beginning with the South East Suns against Devon on February 16.

Matches will be exclusive for News Corp subscribers and on demand replays of every live streamed game will be available after full-time.

All finals matches will also be broadcast come the pointy end of the season.

And coverage will go beyond the live streams, with The Mercury set to deliver weekly TNL content, including match previews, player interviews and stories on the competition’s best and brightest young stars.

Netball Tasmania chief executive Mitch Coulson was thrilled to partner with KommunityTV once again and hoped the new initiatives would lead to a great season.

“We think there’s a lot of benefit in doing the opening round in one location with all the teams,” Coulson said.

“All the clubs have been really supportive. I think us expanding the fixture again and having the opening round in Launceston is, for them, a case of travelling and playing a few games while you’re there.

“The opening round of TNL, there’s no clashes with local netball (given the earlier start to the season). We think there’s some real strengths in that concept and we see this as something we definitely want to do every year to build upon it and maybe in the future, we might do a couple of these sort of centralised rounds throughout the season.

“It also makes it nice and streamlined to be able to broadcast all the games in one spot and hopefully kick things off in that aspect in a big way this season.”

Along with the TNL, KommunityTV will also live stream the Victorian Netball League, Netball SA Premier League and Netball Queensland’s Sapphire Series in 2025.

Coulson said it made sense to once again have Tasmania’s premier competition on-board.

“I think the fact that KommunityTV has clearly made a big investment in live streaming of netball (right across Australia) is big for us,” he said.

“The opportunity through KTV to not only watch the TNL but to watch some of our state’s best netballers play in different parts of the country (is really strong) and it’s great to have that partnership on board again for another season.

“You can see Charlotte (Walker) and Ellie Marshall playing over in SA and Ash Mawer in Victoria, along with a number of other Tasmanian’s around the place.”

The 2025 TNL season comprises of 21 rounds, up from 14 last year, with both the extended fixture and earlier start coming after strong feedback from the clubs.

“The biggest area of feedback we got from the clubs was around extending the length of the season. So we’ve obviously adjusted that,” Coulson said.
