A piece of individual brilliance on the stroke of full-time has kept the dream of three-straight titles alive for Kangaroos.
With her side trailing by six points, and the door about to be slammed shut on their finals hopes, Kangaroos fullback Tanaya Blanco made a snap decision.
She stormed out of marker, to sneak between the dummy-half and first receiver, snatch the ball out of mid-air and took off to score under the posts.
Kangaroos then lifted in the first period of golden point, with a try to rampaging centre Kemi Songoro giving them a 26-22 win and a date in the second week of finals against Atherton.

It was a gritty performance from the Kangaroos girls led by inspirational leader Genavie Tabuai.
The Kangaroos had to fight their way back from a deficit on three different occasions after Ivanhoe Maidens flew out of the blocks with two tries in the opening 10 minutes.
The two halfbacks on either side of the field, Ivanhoes Asta Naden and Kangaroos Rachel Abednego, both played a major part in the contest, scoring tries and setting them up across massive afternoon.
Replay: Yarrabah v Atherton (Qualifying Final)
They got an early scare, but once the Seahawks took flight there was no stopping the FNQRL women’s front-runners.
Yarrabah booked its spot in the FNQRL grand final, and more importantly earned an important weekend off in the lead-up, after triumphing over Atherton Roosters in Saturday’s major semi-final.
The Seahakws scored five-unanswered tries, including a double to barnstorming centre Lakeisha Ulutui, as they powered home to a 22-10 win.
The Roosters had a game plan to shock their rivals with their speed around the ruck, and it worked to perfection with dimunitive dummy-half Kimberley Bryant causing chaos in the early stages.
When Bryant scored from the back of the ruck in the 18th minute it put the Roosters up 10-0 and looking in the driver’s seat.
But once Yarrabah’s impressive forward pack got rolling, they were impossible to stop.
PREVIEW
Yarrabah have already made history once this FNQRL season, and they are ready to do it again as the women’s semi-finals kick off this weekend.
The Seahawks, fresh off winning the club’s first ever women’s minor premiership, will headline the opening week of the finals when they clash with Atherton Roosters for a spot in the grand final.
Meanwhile in the elimination final, Ivanhoes Iron Maidens will take on reigning premiers Kangaroos.
The semi-finals will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV back-to-back from Jones Park.
The Seahawks only dropped two games all season, and storm into the finals off the back of a 38-point win over fellow finalists Kangaroos last weekend.
Prop Khandra Stafford said it was a “good feeling” to be part of Yarrabah’s first ever team to claim the minor premiership, but said the focus now is on going all the way.
“We’ve been in the finals before, so we know what it’s like. Hopefully we can take it home this year,” she said.
But any thought of the big dance will need to be put on ice at Seahawks HQ as they face a plucky Roosters outfit determined to go one better than its grand final appearance last year.
“There’s a lot of nerves among the group, a few questions going around in the group chat,” Roosters captain Mayleen Oppermann said. “But we’re super excited all the same.
“I think our defence has really picked up over the back half of the season, plus our speed in attack.
“We’re not the biggest team but we have a tight bond so that makes up for it.”
Ivanhoes know the challenge that lies ahead of them in the elimination final, with the side putting emphasis on a few key areas where they believe they have the edge over their rivals.
Winger Angel Hoare said her squad has focused on speed in attack over the past fortnight.
“Communication has also been key for us,” she said.
“We’ve been coming off the line well and playing the ball fast when we have it.”
While they are the most successful women’s side in FNQRL over the past five years, claiming three premierships in that time, a new-look Kangaroos might be proverbial fish out of water this weekend.
Kangaroos’ leader Rachel Abednego said her side will have a host of players who are new to playing senior women’s finals footy.
“We’re missing a lot from our original squad through the Northern Pride, but that’s just a new opportunity for some other girls to step up,” she said.
