St Brendan’s got the job done in the Dolphins Cup grand final replay against Rockhampton Grammar on Tuesday.

Their big boys won the battle in the middle in an effort that showcased their strength and physicality.

Brendan’s strike weapons - fullback Kobe Oberhardt and try-scoring whiz Noah Wright - found room to move and both found their way to the tryline.
Wright’s four-pointer and a conversion extended his lead at the top of the competition’s leading points-scorers.
Jake Symes brought plenty of energy off the bench and completed the score sheet for Brendan’s.
Grammar’s Bronson Carlos had another good performance at the back, rewarded with his team’s only try of the game.
SCHOOLGIRLS CUP
Rockhampton Grammar made it back-to-back wins in the NRL Schoolgirls Cup - but they had to do it the hard way against a determined North Rocky outfit.
Lock Alice Kallquist had a hand in everything, scoring a try and laying on a try assist in her team’s hard-fought 16-8 victory.
Grammar came into the game off a 22-12 win last week but they faced a very different North Rocky team to the one that conceded 32 points in its season opener.
The North Rocky girls came with a point to prove and set Grammar on their heels as they registered the first point of the game through prop Ella Lamey.
The teams went try for try in the first half and were locked at 8-all at the break.
Grammar settled into their rhythm in the second half, breaking the deadlock after six minutes.
Kallquist then sealed it with her well-deserved try four minutes later.
North Rocky’s forwards stood tall, providing plenty of strong carries and plenty of positive signs for the team moving forward.
DOLPHINS CHALLENGE
A double to bulldozing front rower Sid Jackson has helped St Brendan’s College storm to a 38-12 win over Rockhampton Grammar in the Dolphins Challenge.
Jackson bookended the scoring, while backrow teammate Jahqkeem Dempsey also nabbed a double, as the St Brendan’s engine room went to work against Grammar.
A knock on from Rockhampton Grammar in the opening set of the game gifted St Brendan’s a gilded opportunity to open the scoring, one they didn’t waste when Jackson stepped his way between defenders before twisting his way across beside the posts.
It was a tone setter for the Yeppoon side who scored at relentless pace, with their big men launching a smash and grab mission through the middle, while the skill players out wide made the most of the extra space afforded to them.
Rockhampton Grammar fought back into the contest with two late second half tries, but failed to overcome their rivals after giving up a 22-4 halftime score.
PREVIEW
A blockbuster battle of the middles looms in the Dolphins Cup grand final rematch between reigning champions St Brendan’s and Rockhampton Grammar.
The teams will face off at 5pm on Tuesday in Round 3 of the elite schoolboys rugby league competition.
The schools will also meet in the Dolphins Challenge, while the Grammar girls will take on North Rockhampton High in the NRL Schoolgirls Cup.

Brendan’s and Grammar come into the highly anticipated Cup clash having won their opening games of the competition.
Grammar co-coach Nathan Doyle said he wanted to see a repeat of the stoic defence his side showed in its 16-4 win over Emmaus in its season opener.
“Emmaus are a pretty good attacking side so to only let in four points showed the boys’ willingness to dig deep for one another,” he said.
“We’ve been working a lot on our defence so hopefully it holds up against St Brendan’s.
“They’re probably going to try to come through our middle, that’s how they did it last year.
“They play that power game with their forwards and they’ve got plenty of strike out wide.
“If we can hold the middle, we’re half a chance.”
Defence has also been an aspect of St Brendan’s game that has impressed coach Scott Minto.
“We know Grammar will put it on us early and try to put us off our game but we’ll be well prepared for an early onslaught,” Minto said.
“Defensively, there’s some good habits getting built around what we do and I think that’s one thing that will hold us in good stead for the whole season.
“If we defend really well as a team, we’ll compete with anyone we play.
“The key for us is to try to keep working at small things that we’re getting better at.”
THREE KEY MATCH-UPS
CENTRES: AJ GILBERT v LEO FANUATANU
Gilbert will be keen to see more time this round after leaving the field early in St Brendan’s Round 1 win against Shalom. He will be up against a familiar foe in Leo Fanuatanu, the two previously locking horns in the Central Highlands competition. Gilbert’s defence is strong so this will be a ding-dong battle with Fanuatanu, who is carrying the ball as well as anyone at the moment.
PROPS: TRAE COMMONS v XAVIER KNOT
Commons comes off a big year in 2024 for the victorious Year 10 St Brendan’s team. Big, mobile and aggressive, he will be looking to take the game to the Grammar pack. His opposite, Knot, will be keen to continue his good form too after a winning start against Emmaus last week. He was strong through the middle and made his mark with some bruising runs and hard-hitting defence.
SECOND ROWERS: JAKE MURPHY v GUOMOY MURPHY
Jake will be eager to keep his good form going against a newcomer to this year’s Open Dolphins Cup competition in Guomoy. Both share the same last name and from all indications, play the game with the same aggressive style to boot. Look to these two to try to spark their teams with hard runs and pressure on the halves in defence. Jake will lead St Brendan’s onto familiar turf in this one and will no doubt lead by example.
