New Zealand has tasted victory for the first time at the 2025 Basketball Australia Under-20 & Ivor Burge National Championships on Thursday.

The new inclusions to this year’s tournament marked their arrival from across the ditch with a 115-50 defeat of Western Australia.

It was one of six matches live streamed from Court 4 on KommunityTV.

Mark Cressingham had 24 points and 17 rebounds in the Kiwis’ big win while Todd Maitland added 20 points and 17 boards of his own.

Vicotria then took a big win in the Ivor Burge women’s, downing South Australia by 40 points.

The contest was a rebounding feast throughout with the opposing captains also putting up strong offensive showings to record double-doubles.

SA skipper Jayne Brownlee finished with 13 points and 16 rebounds while her Victorian counterpart in Mia Wilson had 13 points to go along with her 12 rebounds.

The star studded Victorian men’s side then continued to stamp its championship credentials with a comfortable 111-56 annihilation of ACT.

Jesse Mcintosh (20 points, six rebounds and four steals) top scored for the victors but the most pleasing aspect of the victory would have been the even spread underneath.

Melbourne United-contracted Dash Daniels (14 points and five assists), captain Luke Fennell (13 points, three rebounds and two assists) and Ben Waller (13 points) all had their moments with the Vics now undefeated with a 4-0 record in Ballarat.
