The best of South Australia’s young basketball talents are set to be showcased live when KommunityTV brings you all the action from the Basketball SA State Junior Championships.
More than 40 matches will be exclusively broadcast across May 15-18 from the State Basketball Centre, culminating in a massive final day with all division one deciders live streamed.
Six games will be on offer on each of the opening two days of the tournament before the action ramps up with a massive 18 fixtures on Saturday and finals take over the courts on Sunday.
Basketball SA Operations Manager Tom Mitchell said that with an uptake on competing teams in 2025, the action promises to be better than ever.
“We’ve actually got more teams entered this year compared to any year since post Covid, so we are really excited by that,” Mitchell said.
“Participation rates (for basketball in South Australia) are going through the roof. We certainly don’t have any issues attracting people to play basketball. There are challenges in finding people to coach and to referee but in the last 12 to 18 months, we’ve actually seen an uptick in particular in referee participation as well.
“So we’re in a much better position there than we have been in previous years and we hope that shows in the action on court next weekend.”
Described as the “pinnacle event” of South Australian junior basketball, Mitchell said having KommunityTV back on board would allow the organisation to showcase the best of the best.
“It’s our pinnacle event (for juniors),” he said.
“You’ll see amazing atmosphere and energy, particularly when you get to Sunday on the finals day. “
“It’s probably the most intense pressure that the kids come under on the court for the whole year. So it can be really exciting and daunting but pressure makes diamonds, as they say.
“We have players from all across the state come down and a lot of those family members and friends can’t travel. So to have KTV on board to give those people, along with the general basketball fans, the opportunity to jump online and live stream the games is a great thing for us.
“It’s something that two or three years ago, we weren’t able to showcase our juniors in this way, so it’s been an awesome addition to the tournament.”
