We have compiled some of the best moments from draft prospects in the Coates Talent League — and it features four players tied to clubs and plenty of top talents. Watch the videos here.

AFL Draft: Isaac Kako 2024 highlights

From Brisbane father-son Levi Ashcroft, to livewire Essendon NGA forward Isaack Kako, a host of draft prospects turned heads in the Coates Talent League this year.

We have collated and ranked the best highlights from matches streamed on KommunityTV.

1. TOBIE’S DAZZLING DOUBLE

These back-to-back goals underline why clubs are such big fans of Tobie Travaglia. The running machine got free out the back for the first goal, showing his speed and slotting it through from the paint off just a few steps. Somehow, he was able to top it just a couple of minutes later and 15 metres away. After receiving the handball from fellow top prospect Jobe Shanahan, the blond bombshell burst away again and bended through a stunning snap on his non-preferred left boot.

2. FATHER-SON GUN DOES IT ALL

Levi Ashcroft, take a bow. The Brisbane father-son gun can do some freakish things around goal, and this was arguably his best on the preliminary final stage. The prolific midfielder had three involvements in this chain: he won the interception in the middle of the ground, got the 1-2 handball back and kept running on to get it again. His launch from the point of the centre square off just a few steps bounced through for a goal.

3. OLIVER LAUNCHES MONSTER BOMB

Harry Oliver only kicked two goals for the year, but this was one of the best of the season – even if it was an accident. Teammate Sam Marshall shot out the handball to the running defender who went long on his lethal left peg from at least 75 metres out with the breeze behind. The ball bounced over forward Bailey McKenzie’s head on its end through for an unlikely goal.

4. MARSHALL’S MOVES

Another Brisbane linked talent, another ripping goal in Sandringham Dragons’ finals win over Dandenong Stingrays. Sam Marshall chipped it inside 50 initially but the mark was dropped. The Lions academy midfielder got it back deep in the pocket, sidestepped a tackler and put through an inside-out drop punt from the wrong side for a right footer. The wind at RSEA Park in Moorabbin is challenging at the best of times, so this was all class.

5. BOLTER’S FREAKISH DRIBBLER

Ollie Hannaford has shot up draft boards in the second half of the year, and this six-goal display was one of the major catalysts. His best goal of the came in the last quarter with the game in the balance. The speedy small forward turned his opponent inside out, gathered on the bounce and dribbled it through from tight in the pocket to put his side nine points ahead.

6. ‘BEAST FROM THE EAST’ GOES BANG

Cody Anderson isn’t dubbed the ‘Beast from the East’ for nothing. Sandringham Dragon Sam Fanning received the ball on the wing and had no idea the Hawthorn NGA prospect was hurtling towards him, with the speedy Anderson running him down to win the free kick. Fanning wasn’t pleased, dragging him down and giving away a 50 metre penalty. The Eastern Ranges bull put the icing on the cake by slotting the goal from the paint.

7. KAKO GOES WACKO ON THE COUNTER

Isaac Kako is quick off the mark and the Essendon Next Generation Academy prospect showed just that in this play. The freakish forward was off to the races with the Calder Cannons on the counterattack, receiving a handball in the middle of the ground and running on to get the handball back before putting it through on the run from 40 metres.

8. TOP TALENTS COMBINE

Gippsland Power top talents from this and next year’s draft combined for a crafty team goal. Willem Duursma – the fourth sibling who shapes as an early selection in the 2025 draft – was tackled to the ground and had an arm pinned in the pocket. Somehow, he got a kick away on his knees to Alixzander Tauru who bombed it through.

9. WHITLOCK WHEELS AWAY

Murray Bushrangers key forward Jack Whitlock took a chest mark on the lead before wheeling away and kicking the goal. Not bad for a player standing 200cm tall.

10. JOBE SHOWS HIS TOE

Bendigo Pioneers spearhead Jobe Shanahan showed his ability below his knees here. After the ball bounced away from him, the 194cm talent followed up nicely with a one handed pick-up and right foot snap straight through the big sticks.
