The Grammarians will now take on reigning premier Old Scotch next week where they will be eager to avenge their second semi-final loss.
The preliminary final at Elsternwick Park on Sunday was a tense affair, with both teams enjoying long stretches of dominance when kicking with the breeze.
It was not surprising that a goal to Alanah Fyfe into the wind late in the third would swing momentum heavily in favour of Caulfield.
Jacinta Baxter reduced the margin to two points at the seven-minute mark of the final quarter when she toed the ball through following a goalsquare scramble.
Caulfield’s Isla Mottram then gave her team the lead for the first time since the opening quarter with a mark and subsequent goal from 15m out at the 20th minute.
Despite one last desperate push forward by St Kevin’s, Caulfield held the upper hand to the siren with the ball camped in their half for the final minutes.
Co-captain Serena Kuo was outstanding at both ends of the ground, Sarah Kenny has some good moments, along with Chloe O’Malley
Kate Stanton did a power of work in defence for St Kevin’s, alongside Isabella Stutt, who stood tall when under immense pressure in the final quarter.
Zarra Guss, a goalkicker like Stanton, was another to make her presence felt.
