DODGES FERRY continued its hot start to the SFL season after fighting off a plucky Sorell at Pembroke Park on Saturday.
In the battle of the SFL’s southeast the Sharks flew out of the blocks with a five goal to two first term before snuffing out an Eagles comeback with a suffocating third term to register a 100-69 victory to remain firmly entrenched in the competition’s top four.
After trailing by 21 points at the first break the Eagles fought back hard in the second term to peg the lead back to 14 points at the half and give themselves a sniff of an upset over the highly rated Sharks.
However that was the closest the Eagles would get as the Sharks put in a matchwinning third term to set themselves up for a 31-point victory.
In the premiership quarter Dodges Ferry kicked 4.3 at one end while keeping the home side goalless at the other to hold a six goal lead at the final break that would never be challenged.
While the Eagles won the final term by four points in a gutsy effort it was too little too late as the Sharks waltzed into their fifth win in their six games to sit just a game behind top-placed Lindisfarne.
Dominant Sharks full-forward Cambell Hooker continued his stellar season with the hulking forward kicking another six goals to take his SFL- leading tally to 32 goals after six games.
Crafty teammate Jack Wilson also had a solid day up forward with four majors while midfield bull Jono Bullock led the way for the Sharks around the ground.
Jason Bailey and Corey Murfet were the Eagles best while Tim Castle kicked three goals.
In the other games of the round Lindisfarne and Cygnet continued to build their premiership credentials with the Two-Blues smashing the Lions by 112 points at Huonville Oval while the Port easily accounted for Claremont at Abbotsfield Park to the tune of 116 points.
In the final game of the round Brighton continued its upwards trajectory with a morale-boosting 82-point win over the youthful New Norfolk at Boyer Oval.
