The SFL Seniors live stream between Lindisfarne and New Norfolk ran into technical difficulties on Saturday, resulting in the loss of some footage. We apologise for this and will endeavour to make a full replay available as soon as possible.

Lindisfarne marked Matt Phillips’ milestone 300th match in style, kicking 31 goals - 19 in the second half alone - and passing 200 points in disposing of New Norfolk.

PREVIEW

After a career spanning almost two decades, one of Lindisfarne’s most loyal footballers will bring up a major milestone on Saturday.

Popular veteran Matt Phillips is set to play his 300th game when the Two Blues host New Norfolk at Anzac Park.

The 2014 best and fairest winner and four-time premiership player, Phillips, who put in a best on ground performance in last year’s flag win, has donned the Two Blues colours for a remarkable 18 years, during which he has never missed a finals campaign.

Catch Phillips and his teammates up against the Eagles LIVE in the first part of a big SFL/SFLW from 2pm on Saturday through KommunityTV. The Lindisfarne v North Hobart SFLW clash follows. See the schedule below.

Ahead of the clash with the Eagles, the 33-year-old Phillips said his special milestone was a sign of his loyalty to the club, something he was incredibly proud of.

“It’s been a long time coming and many years in the making. It’s something I’ve been looking forward to for the last 12 months and been a bit of a goal before I can finish it all up,” he said.

“I can remember my first senior game in 2008 and, I think, I had about two possessions and probably nearly missed my foot with a kick, so it wasn’t overly successful.

“I’ve been at the club since 2006 and this is my 18th year and, for me, it establishes me as a loyal person. That’s really important to me and something, I think, should be really important for footy clubs, as I think loyalty is underrated in footy.”

The club stalwart said the lifelong friends he has made, on top of the on field success, were the reasons he keeps calling Anzac Park home.

“I’ve got a lot of lifelong friends that I’ve gained from the time at the club and once we are done with footy, we’ll probably start playing golf together,” he said.

“The friendships I’ve made at the club are really important to me, and also the continued success we’ve had at the club as I’ve never missed the finals since I’ve been there.”

The humble ruckman said he would look back proudly on his career and his ability to get the best out of himself.

“I think I’ve really gone overs in my career and I think the loyalty, and sticking to it, has really helped me achieve the things I’ve achieved,” he said.

“I don’t think I’ve ever really been anywhere near the best player in the team but I won a best and fairest in 2014 and with three (senior) premierships and other accolades, I think I’ve really achieved a lot, so I’m really proud of myself to be honest.”

Phillips’ special milestone match will get underway when he takes the field with his 11-month old son Fletcher in his arms, a moment he said he’d cherish as he looks towards the future.

“I’ve never run out with him before, so that’s probably going to be the highlight of the day,” he said.

“I reckon this is my last year of footy, so I think that’s what’s getting me through is knowing there’s an end in sight and then I can spend all my time with my young boy.”
