It has been a “baptism of fire” for Hobart in the first three weeks of the SFL Community League season and as tough as it is to face New Norfolk at Boyer Oval, the Tigers hope to break their duck with a win on Saturday.

The Eagles are also searching for their first win and halfback Jordan Eiszele says it is a box his team is keen to tick.

“Hobart is in the same boat as we are, trying to build a bit of consistency and it’s going to be a great challenge for both sides,” he said.

The Tigers and Eagles clash will be available live and exclusive on KommunityTV from 2pm with the women’s match-up between New Norfolk and Hutchins also available from 12pm.

Playing at home gives the Eagles an advantage, particularly on a day when New Norfolk has its 2005 premiership reunion.

“It’s absolutely awesome playing at home – we love it up there,” Eiszele said.

“We’ve had a tough start playing Cygnet, Huonville and Dodges Ferry, who we believe are probably going to be the top three sides.

“We haven’t played everyone yet but those teams really took it up to us and showed us where our faults are.”

After opening the season with a 130-point loss to Sorell, a 153-point loss to reigning premier Cygnet, and 99-point loss to Huonville Lions, Hobart captain Tom Channell believes the Tigers are about to turn the corner.

“Our club is in a position where we are rebuilding and trying to get back to a standard we are happy with,” he said.

“It was a baptism of fire over the first three games, but we are happy with the way we have responded over the past few weeks, especially the game against Huonville on the weekend.

“That first half of football was the best we’ve played in a while.

“We are hoping we can continue that into this week and the coming months.”

Hobart is now coached by former Brisbane and Geelong star Allen Christensen, who has brought new standards to the Tigers.

“We’ve got a lot of young kids and a lot of guys who have come to the club fresh this year, and the chemistry is something that takes a while to build at a football club,” Channell said.

“We know it’s about being patient getting that chemistry working.

“We were happy with how, as a group, we played at the weekend – our pressure in defence and making our decisions and stick by them – I think we did that really well against Huonville.”
