Lindisfarne says after a week of ‘grief and mourning’ it’s out of its ‘rut’ and ready to show its resilience as it looks to take down Brighton on Saturday.

It will be the Two Blues first match since the career of star skipper Jack Gleeson was prematurely ended through suspension.

The Two Blues fought to have a two-game suspension levelled at Gleeson overturned, but failed at the judiciary on Monday.

The outcome put Gleeson over the 15 game career suspension threshold which resulted in automatic deregistration from all football competitions in Australia.

Ahead of their clash with the Robins at Pontville, Two Blue Sam Adams said resilience was now their main message as the ladder leaders strive for a premiership in their skipper’s honour.

The final round double header between the two rivals will be live streamed exclusively on KommunityTV from 12pm, Saturday.

“To start with we had a pretty tough week [last week] which probably led into Dodges [Ferry] getting so close to us but credit to them they played good footy but we were in a bit of a rut,” Adams said.

‘But we’ve sort of closed that case down now and it’s been more about speaking to Jack and making sure he is okay but now we’ll come out fired up to finish our season off well.

“We touched last night on a couple of things and mainly about having resilience and being able to bounce back from it.

“We had our week of grief and mourning for him and unfortunately he can’t be out there with us but we’ll close that case and get on with the job and try and win a premiership on his behalf as well now.”

The big-bodied midfielder-forward acknowledged it was gutting to lose Gleeson but said the club still had the talent to take care of the Robins on Saturday and ultimately enough to win the flag.

“We’ve lost the best player in the SFL so any club would be devastated to have that happen,” he said.

“But we’ve got the personnel to cover Jack so we are lucky.

“We’ll all need to pick our games up by 5-10 per cent as well but we feel there’s blokes that can cover that hole and we’ve got the personnel coming through the two’s so we aren’t worried.’

Despite his confidence Adams said his side would not be taking the youthful Robins lightly, who after winning just two games last season have put in a number of impressive outings under new coach Paul Kennedy to remain a chance of playing finals with a win over the Two Blues on Saturday.

“Last time we played them they gave us a little scare coming out after half time.

“Credit to ‘PK’ [Paul Kennedy] and the young fellas as they are really running on confidence.”

For Brighton to make finals it must defeat Lindisfarne on Saturday and rely on New Norfolk beating Sorell, but Robins ruckman Ryan Bailey said never say never.

“We are up and about this week coming into what could possibly be the last game of the season but stranger things have happened,” Bailey said.

“If we get over the Two Blues and other things roll our way we then we are still a chance to play finals so we’ll come out and crack in and try our best football and finish the year off to the best of our ability.”

Bailey said regardless of if the Robins make finals or not, the club were upbeat about the huge improvement this season.

“Coming from where we come from last year the improvement this year has been huge and we’ve come along in leaps and bounds.

“The buy in from all the guys has been great and we are a very young side.

“There’s probably two or three guys that are over 30 that have played regular senior footy this year and then the next eldest guys are around 24 or 25 and then some are 18 or 19 so we are a very young side and they’ve all really bought into what ‘PK’ has brought to the club which has been great.

“It’s a big ask but to knock of the ladder leader in our last game would be a real confidence boost going into next year.”

Lindisfarne and Brighton will clash at 2pm on Saturday at Pontville.
