Jordan Silk has etched his name in Tasmania cricket history, reaching the milestone of 100 Sheffield Shield matches.
Since making his debut against Queensland in March 2013, Silk has been a mainstay in the Tigers line-up.
Upon reflection of his career, the 32-year-old spoke of the mixed feelings of reaching the milestone.
“I am really proud of firstly to being able to reach 100 games,” Silk said.
“It means a lot but it's a funny one because I was speaking to Jeff (Vaughan) about it and I was like ‘I hope there’s a few people never get to this milestone because it means they’ve gone on and represented Australia multiple times’.
“It’s an interesting one because the list isn’t overly big because of that reason because you expect some of these guys who do play for a while to go on and represent their country.
“I guess when I look back that will be somewhat of a disappointment in terms of my career if I am not to get there.
“But then I have to flip that and go there are not many people that get to play one Shield game, let alone a hundred.
“So I am incredibly proud that achievement, the longevity my career so far and still feel energetic and fit enough to hopefully stack on a few more Shield games.”
The Tigers skipper has scored 5859 runs from 192 innings in his Shield career with 12 hundreds and 30 fifties which includes a highest score of 181.
Over the years, Silk has delivered countless memorable performances, helping shape the state’s success in Australia’s premier first-class competition.
In 2013, Silk was selected as part of the Australia A cricket team to tour England.
Tasmania made the Shield final in the 2023-24 season against Western Australia and looked to claim silverware in 2024-25 season after falling short to the Warriors.
But injuries and close games that didn’t fall Tasmania’s way led the Tigers to fall just half a game out of the final which takes place on Wednesday between South Australia and Queensland.
