Hobart Hurricanes big hitter Tim David has revealed he wasn’t going anywhere despite the noise surrounding his future.
David, who has signed a new two-year deal with the Hurricanes, was the last signature from the batting powerhouse which saw them claim their first BBL championship in January.
Coming in at number six or seven, David dominated BBL14 with a batting average of 42.33.
Despite the noise around whether David was going to be re-signed, the middle order bat said there was never any doubt where he was playing in BBL15.
“The biggest reason for the delay is the new 10 player rule, you can only have 10 players signed to a BBL list at the end of the season,” David said.
“That added a little bit of complexity to getting it done with our 10 spots fully filled.
“Especially after the final, the way the season panned out, heading into the last week pretty sure our list was finalised by that point with the 10.
“There was a little bit of media about me not being signed and whether I was leaving, so for me it was just trying to enjoy the final and the week we had in Hobart and the lead up to that.
“There was a little bit of uncertainty in the fact there were media articles saying I was leaving and I was copping it from the hill a little bit and the nature of how it is you’ve got to keep it to yourself but there was always good communication with people throughout that period.”
David said it was an easy decision to re-sign as the Hurricanes continue to push for success.
“We have a very strong team, I am playing with my mates (and) I have got great relationships with the guys in the dressing room,” David said.
“We have kind of built towards that title together for a couple of years.
“For us to be able to come together as a group and play that brand of cricket and to be able to win the first championship with the club was incredibly satisfying.”
After a tough start to the BBL 14 season, David reminded the fans just how powerful he was as he smashed his way to 62 not out from 28 balls against Adelaide Strikers then 68 not out from 38 balls against Sydney Thunder, claiming man of the match trophies.
The signature joins the likes of Mitch Owen, Ben McDermott, Nikhil Chaudhary and Matt Wade as the new contracts for this season.
David, who has played 54 T20 matches and four one day internationals for Australia, will head to the Caribbean for the T20 tour of the West Indies.
