The Hurricanes have taken a huge step in their quest to return to the WBBL finals after re-signing gun all-rounder Nicola Carey for next season.

Carey’s signature comes after a stellar summer, particularly in the 50-over format where she hit a matchwinning 111 not out in the WNCL final against Queensland, which sealed a third straight title for the Tigers.

The 30-year-old was also named the WNCL player of the year after scoring 696 runs and taking 14 wickets.

The left-hander has been part of the Hurricanes set up since 2019 and joins Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Lauren Smith, Molly Strano and Rachel Trenaman as players under contract.

“I’ve loved my time with the Hurricanes over the last few years, and I’m looking forward to another season in purple,” Carey said.

Carey has played 125 WBBL games and is poised the entire the top ten for matches played next season.

She has scored 1433 runs at 18.37, and is sixth in the league’s all-time wickets list with 125.

Cricket Tasmania’s high performance general manager Salliann Beams is confident Carey can help the Hurricanes deliver some overdue success.

“We are blessed to have a player of Nic’s standard be a crucial aspect of our list, she has the ability to change a match in all three facets of T20 cricket,” Beams said.

“It has filled me with pride watching her game continue to improve since coming down to Tasmania, and I know that she can help guide us to success in purple.”
