For the first time ever, the Mercury and Hockey Tasmania have partnered to bring live streaming of underage club grand finals. SEE THE SCHEDULE + HOW TO WATCH >>

The Mercury: We're For You

THE live streaming of underage club hockey grand finals by the Mercury website on Monday and Friday night will be a huge boost for sports fans across Tasmania.

This is according to Hockey Tasmania chief executive officer Damian Smith, who believes the move will engage supporters and friends who might otherwise not be able to watch the matches in midweek.

On Monday night, the under fifteen girl’s grand final between DiamondBacks and North-West Graduates will be streamed to subscribers from 6pm.

Followed by the under eighteen boy’s grand final between powerhouse sides Derwent and DiamondBacks from 7:30pm, featuring several Premier League rising stars.

“As hockey fans and players locally deal with the COVID-19 challenges, Hockey Tasmania has strengthened its engagement with the Mercury newspaper by bringing the best of hockey to their households,” Smith said.

“Hockey Tasmania believe this new initiative is highly important to support existing hockey people and for engaging new fans to be inspired to pick up a stick and play hockey after watching the skill and excitement on display during the upcoming junior finals,

and possibly Premier League.”

“This new partnership with the Mercury will help us build a recognised, powerful image for hockey by increasing the quality and frequency of coverage of our local hockey competitions.”

The initiative may extend to live streaming of senior finals in the coming weeks.
