Unbeaten bargain You’re Two Vain faces toughest test at Ballarat on Saturday
A $15,000 bargain buy has delivered four straight wins for trainer Alicia MacPherson, but You’re Two Vain now steps up to Saturday class at Ballarat.
Changed plans for one has led to plenty of fun for the many owners that have enjoyed You’re Two Vain’s brilliant start to his racing career.
The Alicia MacPherson-trained You’re Two Vain has posted four straight wins to begin his career, which continues in Saturday’s Daimler Trucks Ballarat Handicap (1100m).
You’re Two Vain only cost $15,000 after MacPherson’s father took a tip from a country bloodstock agent.

“He went online as a weanling but David O’Callaghan, a bloodstock agent who is friends with my father, was going to pinhook him but circumstances changed and he decided not to do it,” MacPherson said.
“He advised my father to buy him and dad just went ahead and bought him.”
You’re Two Vain won his first two trials last autumn, convincing MacPherson to adopt a patient approach with the strongly-built son of Group 1-winning sprinter Magnus.

The gelding won by five lengths on debut at Seymour in April before repeating the effort on his home track at Kilmore in May.
“He showed potential and we just thought we’d look after him and not take any chances,” MacPherson said.
“He took a bit of time to get to the races but, looking at him, he just wasn’t ready as a two-year-old.”
MacPherson spelled the four-year-old after those wins but You’re Two Vain returned with an easy win at Corowa before remaining unbeaten at his city debut on the Caulfield Heath track.
But You’re Two Vain will step up to Saturday class in the toughest test of his short career at Ballarat.

“We’ve just been trying to teach him so we’ve just been bringing him along through his grades,” MacPherson said.
“We’re just trying to take it one step at a time.
“Ballarat will be the toughest competition he’s had so we’ll just see how he goes.”
Bookmakers rated You’re Two Vain as a $3.80 chance to remain unbeaten in the $80,000 race despite the speedster drawing barrier 14 in the 16-horse field.
MacPherson said she was happy to leave tactics to jockey Caulfield Cup-winning jockey Cory Parish, who has been aboard for all of You’re Two Vain’s wins.
“He’s pretty quick but he was away a bit awkwardly at Caulfield so I suppose it depends on how he gets away,” MacPherson said.
“I’ll leave it to Cory but I’d think he’ll go forward again unless he just bungles the start completely, then he might ride for cover.
“He’s been riding the horse in his gallops and all his races to Cory does know the horse well.”
