Hobart will look to break an 11-game losing streak to claim the women's title

Some of the state’s best basketball players will go head-to-head in the Tasmania State Basketball League grand finals on Wednesday night. See the key players for both sides.

If ever there was a time to end an 11-game losing streak, it would be in the Tasmania State Basketball League grand final.

Hobart side will take on the Southern Wolves in this year’s women’s grand final, a team they have not beaten since round 7 last year.

The 11-game losing streak also featured the 2024 grand final, when the Wolves claimed a 15-point victory.

While in the men, Hobart will take on Dominoes, a team they have only lost to once this season in the four meetings between the two sides.

We take a deep dive in who the stars are which could change the final.

Men

Hobart v Dominoes at 8.30pm

Hobart finished second and knocked off the Kings to advance through to the grand final with Dominoes winning the elimination final against Grenadiers and then knocked off the Kings in the semi-final to advance through to the men’s grand final.

Hobart players to watch

Jordan Straatsma – The NBL1 player has been dominant for Hobart this season. Playing alongside his brother, Straatsma is Hobart’s leading scorer in 2025 which included dropping 40 points in the round 2 win against Dominoes.

Noah Straatsma – The fellow Charger has played a lot of basketball with his brother Jordan and a big part of the success so far this year. Noah and his brother shared 65 points in the 114-93 win over Dominoes in round 2.

Dominoes players to watch

Archie Stewart – The Chargers gun sits second in the scoring across the whole competition, just 13 points behind a fellow Dominoes teammate. Stewart has 459 points but averages just 17.75 points per game against Hobart where he averages 21.86 throughout the season.

Tommy Stewart – Sitting fourth on the scorers list this season, and sits third, just two behind Stewart for the most three pointers this season. If these two get off the chain, the Dominoes could be raising the championship on Wednesday night.

Women

Southern Wolves v Hobart at 6:45pm

This game will be a 2024 grand final rematch between the Wolves and Hobart. Hobart have not beaten the Wolves since round 7, 2024, which has given them an 11 game losing streak.

Wolves players to watch

Ellie Collins – The Chargers gun is the second leading scorer across the competition and the Wolves leading scorer with a massive 421 points to her name, 59 ahead of third place and teammate Tayla Roberts.

Tayla Roberts – Another Chargers player who has been dominant from just her 15 games she has kitted up for the Wolves this season. Sitting on 362 points from 15 games, Roberts has not made a three so far this season, impressive from a star on the rise.

Hobart players to watch

Claire Murray – Another Chargers player, this time she will be coming up against her NBL1 teammates in hope she can help Hobart break the deadlock of the 11-game losing streak against the Wolves.

Alexandra Finlayson – The Chargers guard will play a vital role in setting up her team in offence and defence as they look to reclaim the ultimate payback in the 2024 grand final rematch.
