Glenorchy recaptures some of its best form on the back of some ‘soul searching’ from heavy round three loss

Three weeks ago Glenorchy was languishing on the bottom of the TSL ladder after a crushing defeat at the hands of Clarence. That defeat sparked the Pies back into action.

GLENORCHY’S humiliating defeat to arch rivals Clarence in round three was the spark to help the club turn around its fortunes, captain courageous Josh Arnold says.

The Pies slumped to 0-3 after kicking just one goal against the Roos in a 78-point hiding at Richmond Oval, but have since strung together back-to back-victories.

A one-point thriller over the Tigers gave the side the much-needed pressure release heading into their bye, and they came out the other side of the break with a commanding 18-point win in the wet against North Hobart at KGV.

Arnold, who again led superbly from the front in defence, revealed some soul searching three weeks ago was the catalyst for the form revival.

“From the week before against Lauderdale there were some really good efforts, we thought we were pretty stiff, especially late in the game,” he said.

“Then to go into the next week, get a couple of injuries and put up that performance, that wasn’t us.

“From there we did a bit of soul searching, came in together and said ‘let’s put that one away, let’s reset’ and I believe it has been a real turning point for us.

“The last two weeks on the track the training has been really good, building that momentum is key being a short season.”

In a season where a host of senior stars are working their way back from long-term injuries, Arnold has been a constant holding the group together.

“I’m one of the lucky ones that has ended up with a good run, a lot of the other boys have gone down and some of those guys are my close mates.

“To see how much work they’ve put in to get back and the hard times they have gone through … I am really enjoying my footy at the moment.”
