A Glenorchy renaissance is looking more and more likely as the boys in black and white steamrolled North Hobart in a SFL Premier League masterclass at KGV on Saturday for a rare third win on the trot.
The 31-point win gave the Magpies a well-deserved threepeat and left everyone at the club scratching their heads as to the last time that might have happen.
Most believed it dated back to before the Covid 19 pandemic.
Whenever it was, coach Josh Arnold was sure he played in it.
“It was a long time ago – probably 2019 I reckon, maybe even 2018,” he said.
“As I said to the boys, it’s a credit to the work they have put in.
“We know there’s still a lot of work we’ve got to do as a team and a lot of work we’ve got to do as a footy club to continue what we are doing.”
North Hobart started the round eight contest a game clear in third on the ladder.
The loss elevated fourth-placed Glenorchy to equal on 16 points and trailing the Dees by 1.62 per cent heading into a full-round bye next weekend.
Since a brave game but ultimately a 19-point loss to Clarence in round five, Glenorchy has beaten Brighton, shocked the previously undefeated Lauderdale and then banished the Demons.
“I’m obviously very pleased with the last month of footy,” Arnold said.
“We didn’t get the win against Clarence but I thought there were some real positives to take out of that game.
“Things didn’t go our way in the first block of footy, but we reviewed that when we had the bye last time.
“The boys knew there was a mountain of work to do, rolled their sleeves up and we are very happy with where we are sitting right now going into this next block.”
North Hobart jumped out of the gates and appeared to be warming up for its fifth win.
But a seven-goal second term by the Pies scuppered that and the Demons’ attempts to fight back were extinguished by the young Pies.
They were led in attack by 15-year-old Jake Beams’ four-goal performance, along with Bryce Alomes (two goals), and the chase and hustle of Josh Hilder.
Defender Harrison Gunther was outstanding as a fill-in ruckman and Isaac Manson made a promising move into defence.
At Ninja Stadium, Clarence beat Kingborough by 29 points, and Lauderdale rebounded at home with an 85-point win over Brighton.
