Four try hero among star of girls and boys junior rugby national finals 2025, results, scorers, photo gallery

Explosions of speed, a sneaky try, brutal defence - the finals of the Buildcorp junior national rugby championships had it all. Stars, standouts and all the winners in our finals day result wrap

Explosions of speed, opportunistic tries, brutal defence and a trio of four-try guns - the finals of the Buildcorp junior national rugby championships had it all - and more.

The new tournament, played in conjunction with the Australian schools event, showcased the rising stars of the sport in XV rugby with U16s and U18s girls competitions and an U18s boys event.

But it was No. 9 and Sydney Juniors vice-captain Sydney Davis who was behind one of the most memorable moments of the tournament after a sensational sneaky try in the first half of the under 18s girls final against Western Australia.

Sydney Juniors coach Lee Sullivan said he has never seen anything like it in 40 years of rugby.

“She pretended to put it down,’’ Sullivan said.

“They thought the ball was dead and then she just ran and scored

“I’ve never seen anything like it in 30 years, 40 years of rugby.

“I love it.’’

NSW teams dominated every age group with the Junior Barbarians winning the U18s boys and the Sydney Juniors the U16s girls crowns - with both sides boasting four-try sensational.

UNDER 18’s GIRLS FINAL: SYDNEY JUNIORS V WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Captain Ella Walker was awarded Player of the Tournament by her team in a well deserved honour.

“The team came together as a group and every player contributed. It really was a team effort,’’ Sullivan said.

“Ella Walker, she is just a standout leader, just the way she carries and her work over the ball stands out, but she is a very modest kid and very respectful.

“She was great.’’

The opportunistic Davis was one of the stars of the first half of this final, scoring Sydney Juniors second try of the game

Eden Melham scored the third before halftime to leave Juniors up 17-0 and well in control of the match.

The standout team offensively, Juniors scored their fourth try when Tenaria George flew over after the break to push Sydney up 22-0.

Salote Koula unleashed an explosion of speed for the Sydney teams fifth try and then after a great team effort, No. 13 Emilee Rose Hall went over for Sydney’s sixth of the lopsided match won by Juniors 34-0.

Jewel Faaui converted two with fullback Modesty Tafeuni awarded player of the final.

UNDER 18’s BOYS FINAL: NSW JUNIOR BARBARIANS V SOUTH AUSTRALIA

In a game that had the crowd on is feet repeatedly, the NSW Junior Barbarians beat a passionate and fired-up South Australia 63-19 with a standout performance from four-try hero Zach Seckhold.

The Barbarians dominated form the start but the South Australians ensured they could not relax for a second in the entertaining match-up.

Seckhold put on quite the show with his individual haul of four.

After multiple trifectas during the tournament he ends it as one of the top players in 2025.

Etonia Kamotu also starred with two tries with other scorers Cy Preketes, Charlie Tanner, Filipe Huahulu and Alex Futialo.

Hulahula was awarded player of the final.

UNDER 16’s BOYS FINAL: BRISBANE CITY V QUEENSLAND COUNTRY

The 16s boys were played as a round robin format but played out with the two top teams, City and Country drawing each other in the final match of the day.

Despite an early try from Brisbane City, Queensland Country flipped the script to score four straight tries and an added penalty goal to secure a 29-5 victory.

Country’s Tom Tugai and Austin Armitage both scored doubles while Isaac Lui was the lone scorer for City.

Country flyhalf Charlie Meredith converted three shots at goal as well as a penalty kick to be awarded player of the final.

UNDER 16’s GIRLS FINAL: SYDNEY JUNIORS V QUEENSLAND COUNTY

The Sydney Juniors 16s girls made it a cleansweep for NSW teams at the championships with their 22-12 victory over Queensland Country.

In a dominating performance, Georgia Wansey scored all of Sydney’s tries with Sila Tuitufu converting one.

Aialiyah Bush scored two tries for Queensland country in another top performance.

Te Anahera Walton converted one.

Selene Koi-Ngaruhe from Sydney Juniors was awarded player of the final.

UNDER 18’s GIRLS THIRD PLACE PLAYOFF: QLD COUNTRY V NSW COUNTRY

It was complete one way traffic in the battle for a spot on the podium with New South Wales Country claiming a huge 54-0 result over Queensland Country.

Makenzi Nelson bolted over for four tries of her own while Faith Green and Sienna Sullivan both scored doubles.

Isla Cameron and Luca Stewart also scored.

UNDER 18’s BOYS THIRD PLACE PLAYOFF: THE COMBINED SCHOOLS V VICTORIA U17

After going down to eventual champions New South Wales Barbarians on Tuesday, Victoria came out firing against T.A.S to score a handful of quick tries which settled their nerves.

Victoria played a strong, well rounded brand of rugby with T.A.S unable to match it with their southern rivals.

Victoria came away with a 49-17 victory with Niupulusu, Taufa, Malupeaua Fuimaono, Palemene, Monteiro-Sua, Lafulafu, Otunuku and Krueger all scoring.

Toovey, Price and Welgemoed crossed for T.A.S.

UNDER 16’s GIRLS THIRD PLACE PLAYOFF

NSW Country defeated Brisbane City 58-10.

Ruby Brochtrup also scored four tries for her side in this battle for third.

In the same match NSW Country’s Poppi Flanders went over twice and also converted two.

Other try scorers for NSW Country were Isabella Newton, Molly Fitzhenry, Luca Fong and Charli Hardgrave.

Emma Simmonds and Jahzara Hvell scored for Queensland.
