As we close in to the pointy end of the Cricket Tasmania Premier League, four teams are still a chance to claim the fourth and last spot in the two-day finals race.
North Hobart sit fourth on 18 points with GN Raiders (13 points), New Town (13 points) and Lindisfarne (12 points) close behind them.
Lindisfarne will need other results to go their way in the final three weeks if they are to push for a finals spot but they will take on Glenorchy (ninth), SHSB (eighth) and the Raiders in the final three rounds.
We take a look at the players who can deliver a finals berth for their respective sides in the men’s competition.
4. North Hobart – 18 points – Q: 0.871
Run home – GN Raiders at Invermay Park, Kingborough TCA Ground, bye.
Leading run scorer – Aiden Bariol – 632 runs at 39.5 – HS: 138 – 1 x 100, 5 x 50s
The last time North Hobart played Kingborough, Bariol blasted 138 from 109 balls putting together a partnership of 176 with Caleb Jewell. Bariol started the two day format struggling but has since found form at the back end of the season with three 50s from four innings.
Leading wicket taker – Rafael MacMillan – 37 wickets at 17.89 – BB: 6-50
MacMillan picked up 3-18 from four overs in the one day match against GN Raiders but remained wicketless against Kingborough, finishing with 0-59 from 10 overs. The first change bowler picked up 6-50 from 31 overs against Lindisfarne and has picked up 14 wickets in the past five matches.
5. GN Raiders – 13 points – Q: 1.067
Run home – North Hobart at Invermay Park, UTAS at University Oval, Lindisfarne TBC
Leading run scorer – Alistair Taylor – 533 runs at 41 – HS: 104 – 1 x 100, 4x 50
Taylor started the season off as one of the most dominant batsman in the competition with three 50s and a hundred in the first six innings. He would follow his 104 against New Town with a 49, 56 and 47 in the next three innings but has had two starts and a lean period in the last four innings.
Leading wicket taker – Jonathon Chapman – 27 wickets at 17.59 – BB: 5-37
Chapman is a key factor for GN Raiders if they are to push for a finals spot. The opening bowler has picked up 27 wickets but has also found some form with the bat in recent weeks, making 81 last round against Clarence and 84 against New Town three rounds ago.
6. New Town – 13 points – Q: 0.935
Run home – SHSB at New Town Oval, Clarence at Kangaroo Bay Oval, Kingborough at New Town Oval.
Leading run scorer – Jayden Vince – 486 runs at 34.71 – HS: 106 – 1 x 100, 2 x 50s
A lean run for Vince since the two-day format has begun. He made a 48 from 54 balls against Greater Northern but has struggled to find his start of the season form which saw him belt a 73 from 83 balls, a 50 from 93 balls and 106 from 117 balls. Vince is a key factor to getting his side into the top four race.
Leading wicket taker – Joseph Graham – 30 wickets at 24.93 – BB: 5-21
Graham has been one of the consistent bowlers this season not just in the one or two day formats. The right arm off spinner has picked up 14 wickets in the last five games, which included 5-58 from 28.4 overs against North Hobart.
7. Lindisfarne – 12 points – Q: 1.28
Run home – Glenorchy at Lindisfarne Oval, SHSB at Queenborough Sportsground, GN Raiders at TBC.
Leading run scorer – Tom McGann – 424 runs at 30.29 – HS: 75 – 3 x 50s
McGann has had a few starts this season which has included a 75 not out in the two day format and a 51 in the one day format. Since moving into two day cricket, McGann has hit 230 runs at an average of 46 which has included three innings where he remained unbeaten. McGann is a key factor for his side to slide into the four but will need further results to go their way.
Leading wicket taker – Keegan Oates – 31 wickets at 18.65 – BB: 6-22
Only once since flipping over to red ball cricket has Oates not taken a wicket, from seven innings (four games) he has picked up 11 wickets. The right arm opening bowler has shown all season he can consistently take wickets in all three formats which has included a six wicket haul in round 2 in the one day format and a 5-22 in the T20 format.
