‘X-rated horror show’: Ange Postecoglou sinks to embarrassing new low amid mole claim

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has made unwanted history as fans demand the Aussie is sacked immediately.

Ange: "No doubt we've got a leak"

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has made unwanted history after a 4-2 loss to Wolves on Sunday brought up his side’s 19th defeat of the season, the most Spurs have suffered in a league campaign since 2003-04

In a week from hell for the Aussie, ahead of the clash with Wolverhampton, the 59-year-old claimed there was a mole inside the club filtering out classified information into the public domain.

However, more concerning than the “leak” is the fact that Postecoglou’s men again folded up like a lawn chair under pressure, with the latest defeat seeing Spurs drop to 15th on the Premier League table.

Like has been the common theme this season, Spurs were undone by a catalogue of errors at Molineux.

Rayan Ait-Nouri gave Wolves a flying start inside two minutes before Tottenham keeper Guglielmo Vicario punched the ball off Djed Spence for a calamitous own goal to make it 2-0.

Postecoglou has seen no shortage of shocking defensive blunders this season but that one even left him bewildered, shaking his head in disbelief as he reviewed the goal on the bench monitor.

But twice Spurs got themselves back into the game thanks to goals from Matys Tel and Richarlison, only to concede straight away as Jorgen Strand Larsen and Matheus Cunha restored Wolves’ two-goal cushion.

WRAP: Pain for Spurs, Reds inch closer

“Funny game because for the most part, it was decent, considering the changes we made,” said Postecoglou.

“I thought we controlled large parts and were a bit of a threat going forward, but then we’ve conceded some poor goals.

“We made some individual errors, which is unusual for us, but they all happened in one game. It’s not like they are doing it on purpose.”

However, the BBC’s chief football pundit Phil McNulty wasn’t so kind, in a performance he labelled an “X-rated horror show”.

“Postecoglou’s expression of thunder turned to one of complete disbelief when he went back to the bench to review the moment (the own goal) on a monitor. It was an X-rated horror show,” McNulty wrote in a match analysis for BBC.

“It is a flaw the Australian has simply been unable to cure, undermining all his fine attacking principles that prompted such optimism and hope in the early months of his reign.”

Tottenham fans were equally less forgiving, frankly fed up with the Aussie and urging the club to sack him.

“This is our PL form in 2025, whoever says Ange deserves to stay needs psychiatric evaluation,” one angry Spurs fan wrote on X.

“Ange and Amorim should 100% be sacked regardless of the Europa league result. And anyone who disagrees didn’t learn from the ten hag extension after the FA cup. The league shows how consistent a team is, not cup runs,” another said.

“Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho just SIX DAYS before a Carabao Cup final in April 2021…If you can sack the man who was - at the time - the only manager to beat Pep in a final, just before we played them then you can sack Ange Postecoglou before a UEL Quarter Final!” a third wrote.

The flaw Ange Postecoglou has been plagued by

When he first took charge of Tottenham, fans got behind the Aussie due to the fun attacking style of football he instilled in the side.

However, after an initial surge, it has been a sorry state of affairs for Tottenham, with defence their Achilles heel.

Since Postecoglou took over before the 2023-24 campaign, only West Ham and Sheffield United (seven each) have scored more Premier League own goals than the six by Spurs.

And only the current bottom three teams – Southampton (26), Leicester (22) and Ipswich (19) – have lost more league games than Tottenham’s 17 this season.

Incredibly it is the most defeats Spurs have suffered in a league campaign since 2003-04 (19) when they finished 14th.

Now, Postecoglou’s sole priority is winning the Europa League.

Spurs will travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

The first match ended in a 1-1 draw and a loss this week to the German outfit will not only see them knocked out, but almost certainly will result in Postecoglou being sacked.

Ange Postecoglou’s sensational mole claim

While it was yet another woeful showing from Spurs on Sunday, their performance wasn’t the biggest shock of the week. It was instead the claim of a mole in their camp.

A traitor has reportedly been sabotaging the Aussie coach’s plans by leaking more than ten dressing-room secrets, leading to the club compiling a dossier of evidence over the past two seasons to root out the rat, who if caught will almost certainly be sacked.

Postecoglou revealed things such as tactics and injury news continue to be leaked, despite warnings to staff to keep their mouths shut.

And the angry Aussie has vowed to “deal with” the mole, who he says has betrayed the club since last year.

The latest incident occurred before the 1-1 Europa League draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, when information spread that winger Wilson Odobert was out with a hamstring issue.

The Frenchman was named on the bench but remained unused in the quarter-final first leg.

And following the match Postecoglou said: “We’ve got a leak inside the club. We’ve got an idea where it’s coming from and we will deal with it.

“You’d like to think that everyone within our camp is working with us rather than against us.”

For now, the mole remains hidden but Spurs are determined to sniff out the traitor.
