A gruesome facial injury to PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could derail the club’s Champions League hopes and questions are being asked how the no one was punished for one of the worst injuries seen in world football this year.
The incident, which left Donnarumma with deep cuts to his face, occurred in Ligue 1 clash between PSG and Monaco.
Monaco full back Wilfried Singo had the ball at his feet at the edge of the box. He had already outpaced the PSG defensive line – leaving Donnarumma little open but to charge him down.

As Donnarumma went to make a move for the ball Singo tried to poke it past him.
But Donnarumma was at his feet – Singo’s struck the ball, then landed on the keeper’s face – tearing it up with his boots.
Medical staff rushed to the field and after a lengthy delay the keeper was forced from the field for treatment.
Remarkably the referee didn’t go to his cards following the incident. Singo had been shown a yellow less than 10 minutes earlier – a second offence would have left Monaco with just 10 players on the field.
Images captured in the PSG dressing room at half time showed extensive damage to Donnarumma’s face with almost 10 staples used to hold the wound together.
Despite going down 2-1 just after half time PSG managed to stage a comeback to take the match 4-2.
With important Champions League games on the horizon PSG will be hoping Donnarumma’s injury doesn’t rule him out for too long.
PSG currently sit one point outside the play-offs cut off. They are next due to play Manchester City on January 23.
