Police have gone public as video of an ugly brawl at an U7’s football game in Sydney continues to spread across cyberspace.
NSW Police on Saturday charged five people over the incident that occurred at Prospect View Park in the western Sydney suburb of Fairfield.
According to police, the incident occurred at 11.50am on Saturday after a sideline confrontation that unfolded in front of shocked parents and children.
A video of the incident showed one woman was pulled violently by her hair while appearing to grapple with another woman.
The brawl was reportedly being broken up by other spectators and club officials when police arrived at the scene.
The people involved in the brawl were then separated, according to a police statement.
An ambulance was called to the scene, but none of the people involved were taken to hospital.
A man and a woman sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The group of five people were arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station.
Two women aged 31 and 38, and two men aged 39 and 42 have been charged with affray.
A 30-year-old man has also been charged with offensive conduct.
A local resident told 7News she had heard “screaming” from her house and said the noises were “a bit intimidating”.
According to reports, the Southern Districts Soccer Football Association match involved players from Marconi Juniors and South West Wanderers.
They were playing in a tournament hosted by the Fairfield Hotspurs Soccer Club.
The club has shared a statement on its official website to say: “As the matter is currently subject to Police and Association investigation we cannot comment directly on what occurred but we wish to clarify that we were the host club to the teams playing in that particular game and NO Hotspurs teams were involved in the incident”.
Southern Districts Football Association has also said publicly the governing body has launched its own investigation and the matter is expected to be resolved through its judiciary system.
Police have made a public plea for witnesses to come forward to provide any further information.
Anyone with information about the brawl – or who may have any available dashcam or mobile phone footage – have been urged to contact Fairfield City Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
