There was plenty of talent on display in Tasmania’s 46-point win over Queensland last Saturday. While challenged at times by the hosts, it was an impressive display from ‘The Map’ who dominated large stages of the game to win their second straight clash against the traditional rivals.

The Tasmanian side was full of strong performances with every player’s game rated below ahead of the side’s second match this year against NSW in July.

B: Jack Avent – 6.5/10

12 disposals, eight contested possessions, three marks, three tackles

A consistent four quarters across the board from Avent but a much quieter game than normal for the North Launceston veteran. Played plenty of time as a defender, got caught holding the ball twice in the back half but finished with 12 disposals (six effective) and three tackles.

B: Harrison Gunther – 7/10

16 disposals, three spoils, three marks

Followed up a quiet first term – given Tasmania’s early forward-half dominance – with a consistent back end of the game. Finished with 16 disposals and three spoils but the step-up in talent limited his ability to intercept as well as he normally does at Glenorchy but will likely feature again in July against NSW.

B: Ollie Preshaw – 6.5/10

17 disposals, 13 uncontested possessions, three marks, three inside 50s

Probably did enough to stay in contention for a return game in July at UTAS Stadium. Started the game slowly but worked into it well to finish with 17 disposals but went at just 47 per cent.

HBF: Oscar Paprotny – 6/10

11 disposals, seven uncontested possessions, two tackles

Probably one of Tasmania’s quietest players in terms of impact but will be better for the run in his first state contest. Collected 11 disposals.

CHB: Ben Donnelly – 7/10

seven disposals, four tackles

Once again showed why many regard him as the TSL’s best one-on-one defender. Set-up plenty of play from the back 50 while spending time on in-form Queensland forward Matt Hammelmann (four goals) and finished with seven disposals and four tackles.

HBF: Blade Sulzberger – 7.5/10

16 disposals, six marks, five tackles, three inside 50s, two clearances, one goal

An impressive first up game for Sulzberger in a Tasmanian jumper. The North Launceston product won some contests early in the game across both halfback and the middle before finishing off his work with a goal in the final quarter. Finished the game with 16 disposals, six marks, five tackles, three inside 50s and the goal.

W: James Webb – 7/10

12 disposals, 75 per cent efficiency, four marks, two tackles, two inside 50s

A solid display from Webb for the second straight year for Tasmania. Did his best work in the second term that included setting up Tassie’s only goal but missed his own set shot just minutes later after a terrific tackle inside 50. Went at 75 per cent by hand and foot from his 12 disposals.

C: Michael Stingel – 8.5/10

21 disposals, seven inside 50s, five tackles, four marks, two clearances, one goal

One of Tasmania’s busiest in terms of disposals but also cleanest in terms of skill. Collected 21 disposals and went at 66.7 per cent by hand and foot. Stood up in the third-quarter when the game was in the balance, kicking the first of the term. Drove plenty of attack with seven inside 50s and also laid five tackles.

W: Harry Bayles – 6.5/10

16 disposals, nine uncontested possessions, four marks, two tackles, two inside 50s

Another fresh face in Tasmania’s line-up, Bayles provided plenty of run on the wing. The talented North Launceston youngster had 16 disposals at 62.5 per cent efficiency and will be another young player better for his first senior run at state level.

HF: Jake Hinds – 8/10

12 disposals, eight marks, four inside 50s, three tackles, three goals

Despite returning to regional footy in 2024, the former Launceston turned Bridgenorth product didn’t look out of place in his return to a higher standard. Was incredibly lively early when Tasmania had all the momentum but continued to be a target inside 50 as the game wore on. Laid a terrific tackle inside 50 in the first quarter that resulted in a goal before adding another two to his name in the final quarter. Finished with 12 disposals, eight marks, four inside 50s, three tackles and 3.2.

CHF: Sam Siggins – 6.5/10

11 disposals, nine contested possessions, five clearances, four marks, three tackles, two inside 50s, one goal

A quiet game by his own lofty standards. Siggins spent time as both a midfielder and a forward, kicking a nice early goal late in the first quarter. Gathered 11 disposals, five clearances, four marks and three tackles but the Queenslanders clearly put much more work into the Lauderdale star this year given his impact in their first outing.

HF: Brad Cox-Goodyer – 9.5/10

27 disposals, 11 contested possessions, eight inside 50s, five clearances, three marks, two goals

If not for Kingborough star Kieran Lovell, Cox-Goodyer would have added a Lefroy medal to his already stacked resume. The Tasmanian captain set the tone early with his forward-half pressure allowing Tasmania to get early dominance. Spent a lot of time as a high half-forward and had a team-high eight inside 50s as a result. Kicked 2.3 from his 27 disposals in another fine display from the North Launceston veteran.

FP: Fletcher Bennett – 7.5/10

15 disposals, 12 uncontested possessions, nine marks, five spoils

While he may have been named as a forward, Bennett spent plenty of time in his usual position in the back-half of the ground. Followed up a quiet first quarter with a strong display in the second term, winning a number of duels in the air and remained involved in the second-half. Ended the game with 15 disposals, 12 of which were effective, along with nine marks and five spoils.

FF: Jack Tomkinson – 6/10

10 disposals, five clearances, four hit outs, one mark, one goal

Probably didn’t have the impact inside 50 he would have liked, but remained involved when spending time in the ruck. Finished with just 10 disposals, one mark and a goal but contributed inside the engine room with five clearances and four hit outs.

FB: Brandon Leary – 7.5/10

16 disposals, seven tackles, three marks, two goals

Was heavily involved in Tasmania’s first-quarter dominance inside 50 and ended the term with a goal to his name. Did well to remain involved during the second where Queensland worked back into the game before slotting his second major in the third-term. Applied plenty of pressure with an equal team high seven tackles and finished with 16 disposals, three marks and 2.1.

R: Andrew Phillips – 9/10

32 hit-outs, 19 disposals, 15 contested possessions, eight clearances, four inside 50s, one goal

The AFL journeyman and Lauderdale ruck man’s class was on display throughout the game. His 32 hit-outs allowed Tasmania’s midfielders to get on top in the middle while he also provided plenty when spending time inside 50. Kicked the final goal of the third-quarter and finished with 19 disposals and eight clearances.

RR: Bailey Boag – 8.5/10

18 disposals, 12 contested possessions, seven tackles, two clearances, two goals

Provided plenty of run and carry in the middle and was one of Tasmania’s best. Third quarter was probably his best and most impacting quarter that included the first of his two goals and was awarded the inaugural ‘Devil’ award as the player’s player. Finished with a game high seven tackles and 18 disposals.

RO: Kieran Lovell – 10/10

37 disposals, 19 effective, eight clearances, seven marks, five inside 50s, three tackles

Not sure if anyone ever plays the perfect game but Lovell’s display was just about as good as they come. The 2024 Lefroy medallist had a game high 37 disposals and while his ability to be involved when Tasmania were dominating was impressive, it was arguably his work on the defensive end that was just as good.

I: Oscar Van Dam – 7.5/10

15 disposals, 80 per cent efficiency, 13 uncontested possessions, four inside 50s, two goals

Was one of Tasmania’s best in the first quarter, booting a terrific goal to open the day before adding another directly in front. Probably didn’t continue to have as big an impact as that throughout the game but finished with 15 disposals and four inside 50s.

I: Harvey Griffiths – 8.5/10

14 disposals, three marks, two tackles, two inside 50s, three goals

The current leader of the TSL’s Hudson Medal count wasn’t overawed at all by the step up to state football. Was one of Tasmania’s best players inside 50 and opened his account with a remarkable goal early in the first quarter. Kicked Tasmania’s only goal of the second quarter before adding his third post halftime. Kicked 3.2 from his 14 disposals.

I: Lachlan Clifford – 6/10

seven disposals, three marks, three tackles, one inside 50

Not the usual impact we expect from the Kingborough skipper with just seven disposals across the game. Stayed involved throughout the game though but will no doubt hoping for an improved display in July’s clash against NSW.

I: Isaac Hyatt – 6/10

seven disposals, four marks, four tackles, one goal

Hyatt also finished with just the seven disposals but kicked a nice goal in the opening term and applied strong pressure with four tackles.

I: Tom Cleary – 8/10

eight disposals, five marks, three spoils

Named in Tasmania’s best and was terrific in defence. Won a number of one-on-one battles and spent time on former Brisbane Lions forward Jono Freeman, keeping him to just the two goals.
