Two Tasmanians will return from Perth with two gold medals after a successful trip across the Nullabor for the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in Perth.

After hammer thrower Arielle Cannell won the under-16 and under-18 titles, it was Jacob Gardner’s turn to stand atop the podium twice.

After winning the under-18 2000m steeplechase, the University of Tasmania Athletics Club member won the 3000m in a personal best time of 8:34.19.

Despite a handful of leading lights being unavailable to participate due to travel costs, Tasmania still finished with 17 medals in total.

Blake Doyle was the state’s other gold medallist after he won the under-17 long jump with a personal best leap of 7.34m on Saturday.

He backed it up with a bronze medal in the 110m hurdles, where he set new state under-17 and under-18 records.

Sandy Bay athlete Violet Owen was another standout performer with silver medals in the under-15 800m and 1500m.
