Tasmanian star Beau Webster believes the Tigers success this season comes down to a simple equation — playing with “no fear”.

The Tigers look all but set to play in the Sheffield Shield final and remain a mathematical chance of the Marsh Cup decider, although still need several results to go their way.

This week they’ll face a tough test against Western Australia in both formats.

And Webster is confident he and his teammates can perform starting with a one-day clash on Wednesday.

The two sides will then return to action in a four-day clash starting on Friday at Bellerive Oval.

“We feel like we match up with anyone at the moment,” Webster said.

“We’re playing some really good cricket. We’ve been a bit of chasing powerhouse this year I suppose. We’ve chased down some big totals and nervy finishes on some wickets that are deteriorating.

“No fear either way (whether chasing or bowling to win a game).

“I suppose our team make up is a little more set up to chase and typically at Bellerive, it can be hard here day one and going into day two.

“It does flatten out and the majority of teams do look to bowl first. If we do get sent in, we’re confident we know how to bat here.”

WA is expected to be boosted by the returns of Cameron Green and Aaron Hardie for the Shield clash, leading Webster to pay credit to the state’s depth.

“They’re obviously a very strong outfit in everything.

“They’re a powerhouse of the country, continuously produce good cricketers.

“It’s going to be a tough week, no doubt. It’s good to host them down here.”

Webster was able to turn his attention to state duties earlier this week after he was part of Kingborough’s Kookaburra Cup final victory on Sunday.

In that game, Jake Weatherald smashed an unbeaten 138 runs off 62 balls to guide his side to victory.

“I was in next and I was almost taking my pads off when we needed a 100,” Webster joked.

“It was nice to watch and it didn’t feel like he was going to get out at all.”

Wednesday’s game is scheduled to get underway at 11am.
