A century in a BBL home final would awesome, but Hobart Hurricanes captain Matthew Wade wants even more.

MASTERBLASTER Matthew Wade has his eye on a prize bigger than a century on his home deck in Thursday’s BBL elimination final against Sydney Thunder at Blundstone Arena — the Hurricanes’ captain wants to get his hands of the BBL Cup.
Wade smacked an amazing unbeaten 130 off 61 deliveries against the Strikers in Adelaide on Sunday — the second-highest score in Big Bash history — and would love to do something similar on his home deck.
Named in the BBL09 Team of the Tournament along with Canes closer Nathan Ellis, Wade is thinking big.
HURRICANES AXE OPENER FOR BBL FINAL
“It would be great to get some runs but hopefully we win,” Wade said.
“Individual performances are always good but we’re all here to try and win the next four finals and hold up the trophy.
“I’ll go out and try and execute my job as well as I can, along with all the other boys.
“But it won’t mean a lot if we don’t get the result we are after.”
Wade said it was “nice” to have the band back together — he and D’Arcy Short opening for the Cane Train fresh from a match-winning 201-run opening partnership in Hobart’s upset win over Adelaide.
“It’s good to be back up the top with D’Arcy — you get that little bit more confidence walking out knowing we’ve done it so many times.
“Sometimes when you open the batting with someone it just clicks and that’s what happened with me and D’Arce.
“Last year it kind of just clicked — the way I play and the way he plays, it just works.
“We hit the ball in ball in different areas, so I’s nice to have D’Arcy back.
“It didn’t last too long the last time we were out here against the Thunder but it was nice to get back together with him the other night.
“Fingers crossed we can do the same thing.”
As well as Wade and Ellis, the BBL Team of the Tournament included the Adelaide Strikers’ Tasmanian batter Jonathan Wells, and Pakistani paceman Haris Rauf, who was plucked from CTPL club Glenorchy and became an instant hit at Melbourne Stars.
“It’s always nice to get recognised but it doesn’t interest me that much,” Wade said.
“Tomorrow night is why I play — and hopefully three more wins after that.
“That’s the ultimate goal for us and that’s why everyone in that dressing room is there.”
