Hurricanes look to bounce back from Launceston loss and pile more misery on struggling Brisbane Heat

A COMBINATION of slow, low pitches and rain has resulted in a subdued start to David Miller’s Big Bash career but the powerful left hander is ready to unleash against Brisbane tomorrow night.

Having travelled nearly 6500km for Hobart’s first four matches — including three regional venues — Miller is looking forward to featuring at some more noted cricket grounds.

It starts with an important clash against the Heat at Blundstone Arena, with the Hurricanes looking to gather some momentum following a 2-2 start to the campaign.

Miller has scored a total of 48 runs in his four innings in an underwhelming beginning to the tournament, however conditions in Alice Springs and Moe — followed by rain in Launceston which left him with just a maximum of eight balls on a greasy surface — hasn’t assisted.

His best showing came at Blundstone on Christmas Eve with an unbeaten 25 from 15 deliveries featuring two sixes, one which sailed out of the ground and into Church Street.

“It is nice to play on really good wickets and nice stadiums so I think from now on we are going to be playing at some big stadiums which is exciting,” said Miller, with the Hurricanes headed to Perth and the Gabba.

“It is obviously really good to get cricket out to the outer parts of Australia, but it is nice to be back at home.

“It has been a bit stop-start for myself, I got in a couple of days before the first game, and then it was travelling to Melbourne and Alice Springs and then Moe, there was a lot of travel with three games in the first week.

“I feel settled, I feel ready to go and I am looking forward to tomorrow’s game and the ones coming up.”

Launceston’s fickle weather initially turned the showdown against the Melbourne Stars into an 11-over a side affair, before another downpour midway through the visitors’ eighth over ultimately saw them secure a four-run win under the DLS system.

Miller said the Hurricanes would not dwell on the result, and is confident they can bounce back against the struggling Heat.

“We have started pretty well, the last game didn’t help us too much but nothing to stress about.

“We still have 10 games and there is a lot of time in this competition.

“I think we are playing really good cricket, I also think the last game was a bit of a throw of the dice, playing in the conditions we got.

“It was on and off, on and off and it was a little disruptive so I think we are just going to forget about that one and move on.”
