Heat go cold: Brisbane on track for unwanted WBBL record
The Brisbane Heat made the WBBL final last year, but they’re now on track to claim an unwanted piece of competition history.
The Heat are closing in on an unwanted piece of WBBL history after they made it eight games without a win this season following a six-wicket loss to the Strikers who are back in the hunt for a finals spot after leaving it late in the chase.
Last year’s beaten finalists have now lost seven matches this season, with their only point coming from Friday’s washed out clash against the Sixers.
No team has ever gone through a season without winning a game, with the Sydney Thunder picking up one victory back in 2022.
Brisbane have two away games remaining against the Thunder and the Scorchers, with stars Jess Jonassen, Jemimah Rodrigues and Nadine de Klerk to miss the rest of the season.
It’s a mighty fall from grace for one of the competition’s heavyweights, with the Heat almost certain to collect their first wooden spoon.
FINALS FANTASY
The Strikers are now firmly in the mix for the top four after they moved to eight competition points to join the logjam of teams fighting for the finals.
After rain helped them secure a crucial point on Friday night, Adelaide flexed their muscles with a dominant display to restrict Brisbane to 9-149 having conceded just 15 runs in the four-over power play.

Tahlia McGrath (3-27) was the pick of the bowlers, before openers Tammy Beaumont (64 off 40) and Laura Wolvaardt (49 off 45) got the chase off to a flying start.
They looked to be cruising to victory needing 22 off 18, but some tight bowling at the death left them needing 14 off the final over.
They only needed four balls with Ellie Johnston smacking the first one for six before McGrath cracked two boundaries to seal the win.
