Former Test captain Tim Paine waved goodbye as he walked through a guard of honour at Bellerive Oval in Hobart to mark his retirement from all forms of domestic cricket.
The 38-year-old, who made his debut for Tasmania in 2005 and went on to play 35 Tests for Australia, was clapped from the field after his team’s Sheffield Shield season ended with a draw against Queensland.
“He’s been a phenomenal player,” Tasmanian captain Jordan Silk said.
“It’s an effort to have the longevity that he’s had.
An inspiring captain, one of our finest glovesman, and a legend of Tasmanian and Australian cricket.

“He’s certainly going to be missed behind the stumps. I don’t think there will ever be another wicketkeeper as good as Tim Paine in Australia.
Paine, who stepped down as Test captain before the Ashes in 2021 after a sexting scandal and took a break from cricket, played 95 matches for his state and finished with a Tasmanian record of 196 dismissals.
He made his return to the Tasmanian set up earlier in the season via the one-day competition despite not having a state contract.
Paine was then brought back into the Shield team, making 156 runs in his seven games this season.
