David Warner’s struggles continued as a plucky Tasmania upstaged a star-studded NSW Blues side with a six-wicket win in their Marsh Cup match at North Sydney Oval on Wednesday.
Warner, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood, Mitchel Starc and Nathan Lyon headlined the Blues’ side, but bottom-placed Tasmania was up to the task.
Tigers fast bowler Riley Meredith rocked the Blues, quickly taking the two biggest scalps of the match - Warner (4) and Smith (9).
Warner, playing his first one-day match for NSW since 2013, was caught and bowled by the 23-year-old Meredith.

It followed a 1 and 15 not out in the Sheffield Shield match against the Tigers and a century and a duck against Queensland.
Warner appears to still be finding his feet after a horror Ashes series.
EASY AS, ELLIS
Player of the match Nathan Ellis, 25, took five wickets playing against some of his idols.
“The NSW team got named a bit later than usual and it was a bit surreal, but you just have to try and calm yourself down, it’s business as usual,” Ellis said.
“You can’t go past Warner and Smith, these guys are blokes you look up to, you stay up late and watch them in the Ashes.”
Yesterday was not the first time Ellis has met his idol Warner, with the pair both spending time playing club cricket for Randwick-Petersham.
“I played two games on the same team as Warner back in 2012 or 2013, but I’m not sure if he remembered me.”
CRUISE CONTROL
In a clinical job, Tasmania bowled NSW out for 237 in 43.9 overs and just about ruined the Blues’ title hopes.
Peter Nevill produced a captain’s knock to keep his Blues in the game, scoring 56 runs from 71 balls.
NSW bowlers were lackluster with the exception of Josh Hazlewood who took 3-47 in 10 overs in his first match since the Ashes tour.
But the damage was done, and Tasmania’s batsman cruised to the total with 4.5 overs remaining.
George Bailey top-scored for Tasmania, smacking 67 runs off 73 balls.
