Adam Zampa has pulled out of the Indian Premier League on the eve of the season for personal reasons.
The star leg-spinner had been due to feature for the Rajasthan Royals but has opted to take a break from the game to refresh.
Zampa was a central member of Australia’s 50-over winning World Cup side last year and is set to form a key part of the Aussies’ Twenty20 World Cup challenge later this year.
However having been on the road for much of the past year, Zampa has decided to miss the IPL to best prepare himself for the World Cup and future international commitments.
The Royals remain well-stocked for spinners given their squad contains Indian guns Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin.
A host of Aussies will feature in this season’s IPL, which also serves as a late selection trial for the final spots in the Australian T20 World Cup squad.
The IPL season begins in the early hours of Saturday morning Australian time.
