TIGER Emma Thompson has wasted little time switching from T20 to one day mode as Tasmania’s female cricketers continue their WNCL preparations in the local competition.

Thompson, the joint reigning Fazackerley medallist, has blasted back to back CTPL centuries for Clarence to hit the Christmas break in sparkling touch.

The star Roos cracked an unbeaten 151 in the side’s big win against Greater Northern last weekend, and backed up with 117 not out on Sunday in a successful run chase against North Hobart.

It bodes well for the Tigers, with a large portion of the group looking to put the WBBL disappointment behind them when the domestic 50-over season begins next month.

“It’s been nice to spend some time at the crease and have time to bat,” Thompson said.

“The nature of Twenty20 cricket and the Big Bash is you never know if you will have six balls or 60 balls to face.

“Being able to take advantage of the longer form has been great.

“50-over cricket, you get time to get yourself in and build an innings and build some partnerships, which has been nice.”

After a mini break following the Big Bash, which netted the Hurricanes a third wooden spoon in four tournaments, Thompson said the playing group has returned to Hobart eager to make amends.

“Obviously that was not ideal for individuals or the team for a lot of us in terms of performances, but we move on to a different form of cricket.

“After the environment in the hub which was busy and intense and not much escape from cricket, everyone needed that time to refresh and set and come back with some hunger to be training.

“We only have two windows of a couple of weeks of training, so we need to make the most of it.”
