Consistency the key for Tasmanian all-rounder Beau Webster this domestic season

Tasmanian all-rounder Beau Webster has spoken about his goals for the domestic season ahead of the Tigers second one-day game.

After top scoring with both bat and ball in Monday’s loss to Victoria, Tasmanian all-rounder Beau Webster is hoping he can bring a level of consistency to his game this season after some strong form last summer.

Webster was named player of the match in the three-wicket loss to the Bushrangers with the 29 year-old finishing with 83 from 86 with the bat before figures of 2-17 with the ball.

“I feel like I’m batting really well at the moment with a role down the order,” Webster said.

“(I thought I) played well with the ball as well so it was a nice day personally but it doesn’t mean much when we get beaten.”

The Tigers will look to rebound on Wednesday when they face New South Wales in another one-day match with Webster hoping he can string two good individual games together in a bid to bring some equilibrium to his game this season.

“I had a nice year last year with the bat and the ball so for me it’s just about consistency,” he said.

“That’s always been my biggest issue. I have scored a few hundreds here and there but the consistency of putting a good year together (is the goal).

“I usually finish a season well so it’s nice to start like this and hopefully I can build on that.”

It was a new look Tigers outfit in Monday’s loss with off-season signings Paddy Dooley and Jake Weatherald making their debuts while fast bowler Billy Stanlake also played his first game for Tasmania after missing last year through injury.

“We have lost a lot of experience in Jackson (Bird), Peter (Siddle) and Ben (McDermott) but we are still comfortable we have a good group and are really confident going forward that this is the right group,” Webster said.

“It’s really exciting to have Billy back. He had an excellent pre-season with our support staff and physios and managed to get up to Darwin to play, and even back to Brisbane to play some T20s, so I think he has bowled more than he ever has in the last six months.

“He is fit and firing but we will manage him through red ball cricket and when we can use him in white ball then we will.”

The Tigers and New South Wales 50-over match kicks off at 10:05am on Wednesday.
