The Tasmania Devils have been forced into a mid-season coaching change which will take immediate effect. Here’s what we know.

The Tasmania Devils under-18 girls team have been forced into a mid-season coaching change with Jessica Wuetschner immediately stepping down from the role.

AFL Tasmania confirmed the news on Wednesday with Jeromey Webberley to lead the girls coaching team for the rest of the season.

A former AFLW player, Wuetschner said the decision was the best step for her career.

“My life has revolved around football for a long time now, and since moving back home to Tasmania it’s been all footy for me – playing, coaching, living and breathing the game,” Wuetschner said.

“I love football and everything it’s given me, but after a recent injury forced me to hit pause, I realised this role isn’t the right fit for me right now. I need to step away, reset, and explore something different.

“I’ve loved being back home and I’ve loved coaching the girls, it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience that’s taught me a lot.

“I don’t think my coaching journey ends here but now feels like the right time to take a breath and reassess. I know I need to keep learning and growing, both as a person and as a coach.

“I wish all the girls and the program the very best, and I can’t wait to see many of their names read out on draft night.”

Head of AFL Tasmania Damian Gill was grateful for Wuetschner’s impact.

“Jess has shown an incredible passion for the game, for Tasmania and for our talent programs. We are grateful for her contribution in the role,” Gill said

“She has blazed a trail for local girls in football, and will no doubt continue to be a strong presence in footy, wherever her journey takes her next.”
