Clarence records its lowest ever State League score in the slop at Windsor Park but snatches win

On a day three TSL records were broken, Clarence has produced the upset of the season by shocking previously undefeated ladder leader Launceston.

CLARENCE has secured a “foundation building” TSL victory over previously undefeated Launceston — rewriting several records in the process.

Coming off a horror performance against the Tigers and forced into making five changes — including losing captain Brady Jones and potential AFL draftee Oli Davis to injury — the Roos hit the front in the final minute of the match at Windsor Park to register a 2.5 (17) to 1.10 (16) win.

The final result was the lowest match score in State League history, the lowest winning score and Clarence’s lowest TSL score.

But it mattered little to coach Jeromey Webberley as his side joined three others with a 2-3 record with the massive boilover.

Second gamer Luke Swinton, one of the five inclusions including two debutants, kicked the go ahead major with 30 seconds left in the match after being left unchecked 35m from goal and receiving a pass from Clint Riley.

“You obviously play in finals and win finals and they are great, but when you have a young group like ours, those types of wins are wins that build your club and set foundations for your club,” a proud Webberley said.

“We had our backs against the wall with the players we had out, and for the first three quarters, the game of territory up here today was definitely in their end.

“But to the boys’ credit they stuck at it and once we got some momentum into the game, the longer it went the better we went.

“It was just really heavy and boggy and slippy and the longer the game went, the ball got heavier. It was a dogfight.”

Recalled Chris Nield kicked Clarence’s other goal in the third quarter after the visitors managed 0.3 in the first half, while Jay Blackberry kicked the wasteful Blues’ only major.
