MULTI-SPORT machine Alex Hunt will aim for his sixth Freycinet Challenge title when Tasmania’s favourite two-day multi-discipline event is held on October 2-3 on the state’s East Coast.
Hunt has dominated the event for most of the past decade while Georgia Nesbitt is expected to defend her women’s crown in the 20th anniversary of the paddle, mountain bike, road cycle and running race.
Freycinet Challenge race director Mark Padgett said the event was the perfect way to get out and about, break the Covid-19 shackles and experienced one of the state’s most scenic locations.
“With Covid -19 restrictions making holidays and events away difficult, we are encouraging people to get out and adventure in the natural environments of Tasmania, in particular one of the state’s best adventure areas on the stunning Freycinet Peninsula,” Padgett said.
“Every year we take pride in showcasing how awesome Coles Bay and the Freycinet Peninsula is. It’s the best playground for outdoor activities and having fun.”
Padgett said the Freycinet Challenge was a long-standing event and regular attraction for multi-sporters in Spring.
“We enjoy the varied entrants from serious Individual female and male athletes to first-timers just keen to challenge themselves,” he said.
“Teams of 2-4 are popular and make for a great weekend away with mates. Some entrants are serious, but most are just aiming for a great weekend of fitness and fun.”
