After a match-winning six-goal haul in the SFL’s representative win over the NWFL on Saturday, Glenorchy sharp-shooter Bryce Alomes now has Kingborough in his sights when the southern league resumes at the weekend.
The SFL is back after a full-round bye with Glenorchy chasing its fourth win on the trot for the first time since 2019 when it beat North Hobart, Clarence, Tigers and Lauderdale from round 16.
Alomes, 20, said the Pies were gathering momentum after “we started the year a bit slow”.
“We didn’t quite click and it wasn’t quite happening,” Alomes said.
“But we stuck at it and worked hard and started to get going, and realised this is the level was can play at.
“It was really good to get the last three wins, it gives us a lot of confidence, not only for this game against the Tigers but for the rest of the year.
“There is belief in the group that was can really get going and on any given day we can beat anyone.
“I’d to think we will go down there to Kingborough and give it a fair crack.”
The SFL flexed its muscle with the men’s team beating the North-West by 19 points and the women winning by a commanding 32 points.
“It was a really good win and we were really proud that we went up there and did it,” Alomes said.
“Everyone bought into what we were trying to do and there was a really strong feeling of mateship in the group.
“There was a lot of talent in the group and we knew that we were good enough to get the job done.
“It was just an awesome feeling to win, and with everyone buying in, it made it that much more special.”
A bag of six goals in his senior SFL representative debut earned him the best afield medal.
“You want to play well on big occasions and to do it on Saturday was awesome,” Alomes said.
“In the big games you want to stand up and own the moment.
“’Bear’ [coach Richard Robinson] told me before the game I had the capabilities to tear the game open, and I didn’t know how to take that, I thought he was trying to get me fired up.
“So it was good to do it.”
Alomes made the switch from Clarence to Glenorchy this season, as did former Clarence coach Peter Ryan, now an assistant-coach at KGV.
The Magpies were relieved to secure Alomes given he bagged eight goals against them last season.
“It was a tough decision, one that I pondered on quite a bit because it was so hard,” he said.
“The change has been really good, and I’ve got a few mates at the club.
“It made it easily knowing ‘Spear’ [Peter Ryan] so it was a comfortable transition and one I am enjoying.
“They are a great bunch of blokes and I am enjoying my time so far.”
